FOV slider
Just replying to voice my support for an FOV slider.
and to the people arguing that an FOV slider will give an unfair advantage to people in PVP… just remember that there is multi-screen support (like eyefinity) in this game, so an FoV slider, if anything, will only even the playing field across all players.
Plus, it would be nice to play without getting a headache once in a while.
It should be fine as long as it’s disabled for PvP, because it gives a small advantage.
Two problems with that:
1 – People can already get 180 FOV right now, if they have the money to buy a tripple monitor setup.
2 – Lots of people have nausea and headaches caused by low FOV. Which means they are at a major disadvantage right now. Adding an FOV slider would level the playing field for them.
Wow I think this is a great idea, good job on the post.
+1 to this. i don’t exactly know how or why but the bad camera kinda ruins the visual experience atm which is a shame considering how beautiful the game is.
This and the non-first person view actually prevent me from enjoying the beauty at its max, especially in big fights (dragons) or in very close places like inside houses, it feels like i can’t see anything or enjoy the smooth atmosphere.
Here’s a screenshot in a smooth place, my character in the middle of the screen ruining it, small FOV or i don’t know but something’s wrong, can’t see anything.

Wish they would at least let us know if they’re doing anything about this or not, and if they intend to…

They commented on the FOV.

The comments being obvious bullkitten, pointed out by posters in that thread.
Le bump, because I still think this is the best solution to the fov problem. Like I explained in the discussion thread, different setups behave differently and need different fov settings. My 13" laptop works fine. My 30" desktop, on the other hand, does not.
LOL the textures are better when using the higher fov, the game devs are such liars, obvious they have no idea how to program higher fov as the main engine designer must of quit or is very very lazy and lied to them.
ArenaNet, you NEED to add a fov slider. YOU’RE LOSING PLAYERS because of an issue that could be fixed in 10 minutes! This is madness! And this is not Sparta!!
I don’t mind a slider, to each their own I guess,
but the distortion in the op video’s 100 fov is so ugly that it hurts.
hurts!

I have a feeling that might have been caused by the video only showing a changed horizontal FOV, while leaving the vertical unchanged.
Given a fixed aspect ratio, you can’t change the horizontal FoV without changing the vertical FoV.
You can see in the video that with a horizontal FoV of 100 you can see much more stuff in the distance because the vertical FoV also increases accordingly.
Take a look at the background at time 0:06. It’s incredible. You can actually see where you are. There’s context, and the image isn’t randomly cut off before you can see Divinity’s Reach (is it DR?).
Some people think a FoV of 100 looks weird and I actually agree, but that’s the reason we want a slider in the first place. A comfortable FoV depends on your monitor’s size, its aspect ratio, and your distance to the monitor. There’s so many variables that a fixed FoV (as we have it right now) just is not enough.

I just did something I shouldn’t have done…
I changed the window size to increase FoV to match 3 monitors. Holy… Gosh! Feels like I’m missing out on half of the art in the game. Fps difference was 5~

made some new test and comparison at
- 1200×1200 (1:1)
- 1600×1200 (4:3)
- 1920×1200 (16:10)

it is a work in progress
i don’t get nauseous, but i do get frustrated when the FoV is way too small to really see where i’m going or the camera gets obstructed by things because of bad FoV. its incredibly annoying when trying to navigate small or cramped up areas.
the 65 FOV in that video posted above is a prime example of manipulated evidence. I never zoom my camera that close in to my character and play just fine. The comparison given is unfair to the original.
Please note that i am not arguing against a greater FOV option, i’m just saying the video is tampered.
EDIT: i also play with my character offset to the left of center, so when i do zoom in i can see more of the picture.

So this is why I feel so sick and have to stop playing, don’t mean to bump an old thread but this game is killing me. Never experienced this before.
