This issue came mostly from annoyances from jumping puzzles.. but it’s come up other times. I find it really annoying that fall damage kills you outright. The only saving grace from it is that your gear doesn’t degrade from it.

My idea is to make fall damage down you. This is good for a multitude of reasons. One is that, like I said before, it makes jumping puzzles less of a pain. But if you take fall damage in an area with monsters, they still have the opportunity to attack you and kill you. So the only way to recover scott free is to take fall damage in an area where there are no monsters. Another reason why I dislike dying outright is having to spend the money teleporting to a waypoint. At higher levels teleporting becomes such a pain money wise that I don’t really even teleport anymore unless it’s a large distance (like across the entire map).

If you want a level of realism, you could create a threshold of fall height of where you die instead of getting downed. However if this is done I would like it if that threshold was very high so that the majority of the time you still get downed instead of dying. It should be to the point that people understand why you die and not go “come on, I wasn’t that high!”

I really really think that fall damage can only be enhanced by making you be downed instead of out.

Use a 50% less fall damage trait.

Problem solved.

i think falling damage is just right, and being killed by a fall just makes perfect sense.
Lets think of this scenario in WvW, you and your team captured a castle in a big cliff, suddenly there is an attack at a near position but you have to take the panoramic route because you are pretty much very very high, If a fall didn’t kill you, you’ll have a full team of players making an insta response to that attack because players will only be down but not out

i dont know cele, not much of an instant response to have a group all get downed and have to revive everyone before moving on. plus you leave yourself very vulnerable to easy kills by the enemy.

anyway a clever solution would be for Anet to add a field in jumping puzzle areas that when you fall thru the result is hitting the ground downed versus out. thus you preserve the rest of the game while making some puzzles that only have a handful of places to kill you outright less aggravating. for example the one in the caverns of caledon forest is double aggravating because of veteran mobs on the floor and majority of the puzzle is above the fall and die threshold. not to mention the only reliable way back in is to climb the spiral again.
