Fee for more regular content updates? More stuff in the store?

As I go through the content and am constantly amazed at the value I get for a game with no subscription, I often wonder what AN could produce if there was a modest fee in exchange for it. How about it – if AN charged, for example, just $5 a month, but in exchange, there would be a population of a whole new phase of content, as big as what they just offered, on a much faster timeframe, would you guys go for it?

I know the old model of $15/month is probably out the door, and AN has picked up on this really smartly, but for a lower fee I can’t imagine what amazing stuff they could produce. Anybody else but me thinking that?

Also AN, I love the store and the items already in there, but it can be a bit threadbare. I would totally earn more gems and spend them if you had some more robust vanity and other items – I think many players would. I get constant guild comments about people wishing there was more stuff in the store – think League of Legends and the feast of fees/happiness that comes out of skins. Any action there?

Also, any change of beefing up the Black Lion Chests so there is more incentive for keys? Maybe a random drop of a great skin or something fun or really off the hook, akin to the 1-2% chance for something crazy when people open crates in TF2?

Just some thoughts!!

Thanks!

More money does not always translate into more quality content, plus this game is very PvP focuses, with some PvE content.

That’s a good point, but there could be more classes, more races, more BG variety, I don’t know. Plus the instances and zones are very fun

How do you know that there won’t be regular content updates now? The game came out less than a month ago, give Anet some time to establish a timetable for updates.

See GW1 for how content will come about for GW2. Stop asking to pay more for games. Money doesn’t = good.

Plus GW2 is not anywhere near just about PvP…it has both PvP and PvE.

Assuming that the number of classes, zones, and overall content has more to do with money and less to do with design is probably not the best assumption. Its not like they will just go hire 50 new developers and suddenly they churn out tons of new content every month. Games just don’t work like that, sure a little more money never hurts, but throwing money at problems is rarely ever the best solution.

I’m sure there will be regular content updates to the store, as this will be a source of income for Anet. That said, I expected a lot more content “on the shelves” to start with.

Guild Wars have always prided themselves on having no subscription fee, if you wish to make a “donation” you can buy gems fr4om the gem store.

The way it is set up now, people who want to pay can pay and gin no real advantage, where people who dont want to pay are not obligated to do so. Why change it?

No, no fee – it’s Guild Wars. As the poster above said, you can make a “donation” via the gem store. I know some people who have said they’re allowing themselves a gem store budget per month equal to what they would have spent on their WoW subscription. I normally never go near the cash shops but I’m buying some stuff because there’s no sub and I think the game is worth it.

I think they’ll probably expand the town clothes and maybe those vanity armour skins later on, GW1 has a lot of clothes in it’s store.

Also to the guy saying GW2 is pvp focused with “some” pve content – have you seen how big the world is? And the explorable paths mean there are actually over 30 dungeons.

Uh, what? lol

Have you seen the PvE? And the PvP?

And yes, I’d possibly pay a fee to get goodies. I was used to subs, so not paying anything for such high quality, I would pay money to splurge on cosmetics or content.

But not a monthly sub. I’m forever done with that, now that I see how a game should be. I would pay micro-transactions for mini-expansions. Like DLC stuff of a zone.

Instead of a big expansion years later, give me a small $10-20 something sooner. Need to be very careful how customers react to it though. Oftentimes, people comment and voice opinions, before they grasp a firm understanding of what is going on. Ignorance could lead to “pay to win” arguments and the like.
