Hey,
I’d just like to start off, I think GW2 is a really decent change of pace game wise compared to other MMO’s. I just want to throw out my opinions on the game on what I find awesome and what I find not so awesome.
- Travel Costs
Travel costs in Guild Wars 2 seem to be a good way to create a gold sink. However, my only problem with this is being forced to pay to resurrect. Coupled with the (sometimes hefty) repair costs, it seems like they are a bit high. A suggestion would be to remove the cost for resurrecting at a waypoint near you, or lower the costs.
- Death in World vs. World
Currently, I am completely discouraged to play WvW at all. Gold isn’t exactly that easy to get in the game, and I found most of my money went towards repairs from dying in World vs World. In there, it is almost a guaranteed fact you will die multiple times because all it tends to be is a giant zergfest. When you die multiple times, your armor starts to break, and you end up racking 7-12 silver worth of repairs within a pretty short amount of time. I think it is enough to charge gold for siege weapons (yes I know you can get them with those honor tokens or whatever), there doesn’t seem like that big a reason to penalize us for dying in a game mode like this. Now, I’m not saying give free repairs in world vs world, as I’m sure that would be some ridiculous exploit attention. You could just simply remove the fact PvP deaths cause armor damage and take out the repair NPCs.
- Titles
I have to say, I am most disappointed with titles in Guild Wars 2. In Guild Wars 1, titles were easy to spot, and would show if someone scrolled over you. I enjoyed looking around to see what types of achievements fellow players had displayed simply by mousing over them. In GW2, however, all titles are just a little line of text below their health bar when you click on them. Some of you are going to say “Yeah, well that is all it was in GW1”. Yes, that is true, but in GW1 it was a lot more noticeable.
- Black Lion Chests
Their drop rates are a little ridiculous. I currently have about 60 of these in my inventory, and I’ve opened maybe a grand total of 7 or 8 with keys I’ve found/bought. I’d be more willing to buy keys from the gem store if the stuff inside the chests were more appealing to me, but that is just my opinion. Nothing really to suggest changing here I just wanted to mention it
- Waypoints
I like being able to jump around to parts of the map more specific than just major towns/outposts.
- Crafting
I really enjoy the spin put on Crafting in Guild Wars 2. Instead of walking up to an NPC and having it “teach” you how to make all of your things, it is almost entirely up to you to mess around and create things in the discovery panel. It gives more of a realistic feel to the craft, especially to the chef (you get to make recipes by trying out and mixing different ingredients together to see if they make something yummy
)
- Transmuting
This was a really awesome thing I liked to use when I played WoW. I was happy that I could keep my old armor or armor that looked nice but had really bad stats and carry the look over to my gear that had awesome stats. I also like the ability to pick and choose which parts of each item you’d like to keep, including runes/sigils as well as stats and looks.
Thanks for the great game, and I’m sure that what you have done is only the beginning and that there might be even cooler things around the corner!
