I’m a little late picking up this game, to be honest I wasn’t attracted to the series. Sandbox mmo’s have always been a turn off for me. To much hassle for well… hardly anything.

However I decided to give this game a chance, and lets face it. Perception is reality and the strongest example of this is first impressions.

I see a game that COULD of been awesome. Maybe it still could be, a patch here and update here. The game needs some content and I’ve got a few suggestions and critiques. I’ve been thinking about this post for a while now, so it’s a read but I’ll try to make it worth reading.

I want to start with the games UI and general utility.

Wow, what a disappointment. This game is lacking some programing. Lets start small
The most used item in this game by far THE MAP! Ff you even want to think of it as an item. It’s an rpg after all. Dear god, are you telling me I can’t even set my own way points?

…. Do you know how annoying that is constantly reopen my map to make sure I’m going the right way, or while on a farming run I get turned around and end up heading a short while out of my way. I don’t like having to open up the map all the time just to go wherever. I don’t like using the teleport function as I’m new to the game and I want to get a feel for everything the game has to offer, so I walk and farm everywhere. HOLY CRAP NO MOUNTS! lets not get going on that, I know that’s a sore issues for a lot of people here, but lets face it… it’s flipping annoying.

Moving on let’s touckitten bindings, target locking, auto attacking, and the camera.
This IS FUNDAMENTAL for EVERY SINGLE COMPUTER GAME HOW DID YOU F THIS UP! HOW?!

Lets start with some basics here, auto attacking is a “skill” so to speak… interesting idea I guess. It just doesn’t feel fluid though…. Sure once you START attacking the auto attack just keeps going…. Sometimes. Sometimes… it just stops and you gotta restart the combo again in between abilities. Lets recap this… “AUTO” is an abbreviation right? Or did I flunk out of preschool? I dunno at least I think this term is short of Automatic attacking, right? Can someone explain to me… why the game decides to stop? Is this like some built sympathy mechanic that my character feels bad about crushing the centaurs head in and decides nahhh I’d rather not. The auto attack is flawed even more so for ranged users. If I double click a target I want you to attack it… I want you to MOVE INTO RANGE AND ATTACK IT! I don’t want you to stand there and scratch your manhood and ask me now what?
Auto pathing… This should really be an option. Click a spot on the minimap or ON the map, Maybe even hold right click, wheel opens with open… Move to area, alert danger to area, alert area down ally etc etc. Cause lets face it…. you don’t always need to press fwd to move. Lets give some lazy options here. Sit back and enjoy the ride, go grab a snack take a leak, come back, right on I’m there, sweet.

This is just a few I’m sure other players have come up with DOZENS of things this game lacks as far as the ui. But I’m going to end it with my big pet peeves, this is a first impression and I want to move on.

Lets talk about the Story and the writing.

You know what the best part of an rpg is, Falling in love with the characters, falling in love with the story. And rpg is a fantasy we get to act out, and no a days choose the outcome. Part of the reason I’ve avoided sandbox games is the lack of immersion. Now I picked up skyrim ages ago and at first you fall so deep into the game than you realize is just another sandbox it falls off pretty hard mid game. Yet still it initially gives you a little immersion before they blow it. Good stories are just hard to come up with these days and that’s fine, not every writer is going to be a shakespear and live on well after he dies. Some of you have to suck so we know who the good ones are.

Well you guys hired the bad writers. As if that wasn’t enough… As if having bad writers wasn’t enough of a problem, you also hired the worst voice actors in the history of gaming.

Nowaday’s if you want get the immersion in a game you take real people, you put them in those fancy suits and you have them act out the scene with directors a staff and THAN you animate…. you don’t let the graphics guy do it from scratch, that’s why you have these stiff uneventful cut screens where they just stand there and point at each other. Ohh woooow… Whats going to happen next?!!!… asked no guild of wars 2 player.

Hire some actors!!!! have them act it out and record them… throw their voices in the game. Don’t just let some joe smuck off the street read a script in front of the mic anymore.

Guild of wars 2, zero production value.

Okay so that’s not it for cosmetics but I’ve got another thread for that. This is manly just my disappointments in the game so far I’ll be posting some more later on other issues, bugs I’ve found etc….

This is the saddest fact of all… This game has been out for a while now and well… it’s this bad. Honestly this game STILL feels like a beta. It wasn’t ready to be released and in fact it’s just awful… I’ve never been so disappointed in a game in my entire life, but I guess I shouldn’t expected much from a sandbox they are on the bottom of rpg’s for a reason.
