Great idea, but its never been discussed fully here. A couple of short posts here and there but never anything of this thread size before. Maybe its because the forums here have had a bit more time to mature and have more people on it. Either way, we’ve had a lot of good feedback here compared to other threads.
Still good find.
Devs have commented that 1st person is being evaluated becuase so many skills in the game do not work from a 1st person view.
how do you deal with thief leaps? or the disorientation of whipping around a character doing that snake strike? etc
Personally i would say best way would be issue a town clothes ‘weapon’ that is a camera. when you use the ability of the camera it zooms you all the way in to first person. Allows for great screenshots and could be used in some jump puzzles put could be easily weapons swap back to combat mode if the need arose.
course i prefer the situational awareness of 3rd person even in JP, would use it strictly as i said, a camera to take screenshots.
It is that simple. It was done in GW1 and the Assassin (with its shadow step and leap skills) as well as other classes that had a leap abilites with the Eye of the North Expansion. While it wasn’t the best viewpoint for shadowstepping you can change it when you liked.
This is how it worked. When you zoomed in with the mousewheel, like you do in GW2, you could zoom in so far you could zoom past the 3rd person into 1st.
Now I’m not saying the game should be played entirely in FP, GW1 & 2 was originally designed in 3rd Person. but there are some circumstances that are easier. Especially for the majority of the jumping puzzles, but they can be tricky without a FP viewpoint. Which is kinda why it would be nice to have it as a feature than a forced option.
Town clothes weapon would be a good way round it, but not so good for external areas… heck even making the player completely invisible from their own viewpoint would be better, as you can zoom in quite close (but only invisible at that range), but anything to get the back end of the player out the way your view in some cases.
Still really good points, town weapon may be the way forward for part of it.
Again, keep the comments coming, if you agree/disagree all comments welcome!
