With the huge rise of F2P MMOs, perhaps ANet should consider allowing people to demo the game. First 10 levels should be enough for people to get a feel of the game, no?

It would also let people test if their PCs can run the game without gambling 60 dollars (since you can’t transfer accounts, legally anyway).

GW2 is in their third month right now, a trial this soon is a bad idea. The recent trend you’ve seen for free trials is from games that have been out for over a year or more. plus, those games that have free trials are all p2p, where as this game is a buy to play only.

only need to buy game once not that big of deal. we get tons player every day anway

demos and free trials are the same thing, one of them can work offline is the only difference.

besides, building an online game to work for an offline demo is way too much work for it’s worth.

I understand the trial will come eventually, and that’s fine, but definitely not within the next year.

Also, they made it so that you not only had a limited number of hours to play, but you also had a limited number of days to play it in too.

i don’t see why they wouldn’t add a trial within the next year.

trials are not the same as “OMG WE’RE DYING, WE NEED NEW PLAYERS PLZ”.

This would be very good for the game, populating the first 2 starting zones with f2p players would make the world feel more live and busy. I don’t know if Anet really thinks they need f2p mode to attract more people. But when 1st expansion hits the stores, beginning areas will be dead empty.

I think you’ll see a free trial at some point but there is no reason to do it right now. There are still bugs that need to be ironed out and plenty of things to improve on. No reason to in essence make a new marketing push until more of those issues are sorted out.

But if one were to happen in the near future I would expect it to happen in early-mid December.

A simple solution to the “can my PC run GW2” problem is simply to create a kind of ‘benchmarking’ software that runs through a cinematic-style scene and tests your PC.

They had the same thing in Crysis and Half Life 2.

It took them awhile to put in a demo option for GW. I forget how long, but it was at least a year, if i remember correctly. I’ve had people use a secondary account i have (people that i know in IRL and trust) and everyone of them that used it (7 so far) bought the game.

I can see a trial with the following restrictions:

• play in 1-15 areas.
• personal story up to level 15.
• level up to 15.
• craft up to 75.
• trade not allowed.
• accept friend invitations, not invite to friends yourself.
• invite only to friends to your party.
• speaking to friends and party members.
• no pvp
• no wvwvw

• maybe no all races allowed (and that means, not all cities/starting zones allowed)

i agree with everything ludo, except not all races allowed. All races and all classes should be allowed, unless they are part of an expansion or need to be bought on the gemstore.

I’d also add no gemstore and no gem exchange. And no TP either.

why not just use the GW1 trial. I don’t even think they had a trial until the Factions came out…

14-Day / 10 Hour trial. Plenty to “try” before they buy. Then offer the upgrade in the Gem Store just like they offer the collectors addition.

I depends on the world.

In mine there’s always people, but some worlds had kitten players that were expecting something like WoW or Diablo or the original GW, and left after a while, unable to farm like they are used to.
