Fishing?
What MMO doesn’t have fishing? This mmo…..
Just kidding.
Fishing I think would be a great idea. You can have certian fish for food recipies. craft the fish for an ability to get crafting materials such as scales and blood. And as mentioned it’s a good break from fighting.
I can see this totally being a living story update too. Quaggan fishing tourney?
I like the idea but I think you could actually take it a step further and make it like a crafting skill where you would have to level to go fishing in higher waters. Make it sorta like a rng for materials. So people wouldn’t farm one spot make it so people could not throw a line in the same general area twice. Make them move around. How great would it be to throw out a line and pull in a charged loadestone.

It’s a fun thing to do, but there are more important things that have to be done first. Maybe in a year or two we can hope for that.
I don’t see why not, but I wouldn’t put it in high priority.
All really good ideas really, those all could fit into one large idea.
i like fishing irl and in games but the last game i played that had fishing was Fable 1 lol so yeah, would like fishing in gw2 over any activities.
The title kind of sums it up really. What MMO doesn’t have fishing?…
(AFAIK at least)
The Secret World
The Old Republic
Champions Online
Age of Conan
Dungeon and Dragons Online
Star Trek Online
Anarchy Online
City of Heroes
Guild Wars
Guild Wars 2..
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
Its nice to take a break from leveling and crafting, and just simply throw a line out and chat with friends.
I wonder how many people who want fishing actually like fishing, versus just wanting something to click on and get free stuff with a minimum of effort.
Just throwing in an idea or two for if Anet ever decides to implement a fishing minigame (you know, like two years from now. Kind of burnt out of minigames currently!)
Doing this minigame,…Somtimes, we don’t catch a fish, we pull in an old Boot, an old weapon, some tattered clothes. We can then salvage them for crafting materials or (Very rarely) the old weapon ends up being an Exotic or Precursor (the Aquatic ones). That’d be a neat addition to the mini game too.

for the time and effort of clicking, most games allow you to get more stuff per effort by clicking weak mobs. I really doubt this is a factor of any significance.
the last game i played that had fishing in it was ultima online and they implemented it very well, it was not only a craft but an actual skill you could use on either the shores or in the deep oceans, the deeper the ocean the higher the rewards (and dangers of pulling something up that was very dangerous).
if a platform was provided (such as a small ship with perhaps a merchant on board), on maps that have deep oceans, i could definately see players wandering around the maps looking for good fishing spots, some for loot, some looking for trouble from the depths and others simply to relax, throw a line in and chat away.
(the more players on the ship, the higher the chance they may pull something out of the water (such as a champion). it could even be turned into a fun event “GONE FISHING” lol. =D
Why do you think there isn’t any fishing related food/mats?
Fishing has been on the to-do list for a long time now, I’m sure they will get to it when they are ready.

I’ll never pass up on an opportunity to voice my desire for fishing. So…yes please.
I played a few years of Final Fantasy 11, which was by far the best game for crafting in my opinion and fishing. Fishing should be some what of a mini game in my opinion. Not a spot on the map and hit “F” and your done. Just simple simplicity of maybe fighting the fish a little bit, and fish where ever there is water would be perfect. It would not be hard to code, I assure you
The pain would be adding in the new skill, crafts, etc.
Arena Net could go far with it. Giving or selling fishing gear on the Trading post to maybe give a boost to night time fishing or certain area fishing. There is so much that could be done.
CJH, I agree on the random monster pulls! FF11 had something similar and it was awesome. It also stopped bottling and gold sellers. Monsters would pull up on the boat and kill the botters. Pure awesomeness. Haha

One more point to add. Fishing in a really good way is a ideal key point for new players to make some coin. Making some coin obviously helps you progress. With crafting or buying that new armor set you always wanted.
I remember on FF11, if I had time I would buy a few dozen pieces of bait and fish it all up. Some bait would get me four to Six fish before having to add a new piece of bait on. By the end of my fishing trips I would go on the AH and sell them and wait. Resulting in a very good profit due to making 90% profit back from bait prices. I could afford to play and have fun. Instead of grinding my way through dynamic events or monsters to some how hopefully get an good drop. Fishing could really open up the crafting world, you just have to open up your minds to the possibilities.
Loved fishing in wow especially on those lazy days so +1.
I did to actually, it was fun and relaxing. It was like crafting where you mix recipes and your done. You got to interact with a skill.
? like it .fisher for the chef.+1
