MMOViper has a bot that I hope ANet has gotten a hold of and is running through its code to so they can detect easier.

Though after what I read on it, I’d put in random spots of enemy mobs turning into green friendly NPCs for about and hour or two in the more popular areas for farming to try and catch that one. The way it read for those that don’t subscribe to their group makes it sound like the bot would turn “we-todd-did” because it would constantly be attacking a named mob that was turned “good guy” and can’t be harmed by players.

There isn’t a night that goes by where I don’t see teleportation hacks and bots running around. It’s almost as bad as Lineage II was.

LMAO!! @OP, Like you think that ANet can ACTUALLY ban the ppl on those 2 sites. Which brings to beg the question - What were YOU doing there???

Plus, let’s not forget, gold farming, as of 2009 was, and I’m sure is much more now, a $1.8 billion worldwide business. Think again if you thought it was some little nickle and dime operation...

There’s a trick to catching those tele bots. I’ve done it lol.

They all follow a pretty similar pattern. Stand at the starting place of a zone or a tele point, and if they’re doing a farm run, you’ll see them fade in and out there. I even got a video of it and I reported like 10+ bots through their name displays. Just keep reporting and eventually they’ll be gone in the next ban wave :P.

(Hacking in games = boring… and it screws up the game’s gameplay for those it interacts with. Don’t do it.)

Let’s not forget that NCSoft is out of South Korea and well:

Korean high court’s 2010 ruling means that exchanging virtual currency for real money is legal in this country although subject to taxation.

And this:

The PRC Government decreed in 2009 that: "The virtual currency, which is converted into real money at a certain exchange rate, will only be allowed to trade in virtual goods and services provided by its issuer, not real goods and services."

Oh and this:

Gold farming has been discussed as a tool for socioeconomic development by the World Bank and University of Manchester professor Richard Heeks. The money involved is small enough to flow easily from many first-world players, and large enough to make a difference to the people doing the work. Gold farmers receive a higher percentage of sale revenue from their work than do farmers of fair trade coffee.

I think that speaks volumes...

So it’s a bit bigger than gamers QQ’ing on forums. I.e., it’s supported and encouraged.... Don’t ppl study world econ anymore???

Money to virtual currency? There’s already something like that, Gems lol.

If people want to spend money on gold sites and support the people not making the game, feel free to… It’s your money, but game devs have every right to deny you access to the world you play in.

Is it really supported? Yes, it makes a LOT of money, which is why people do it. However, let me ask you, don’t people play games anymore? Don’t people study games more? Bots and hacking, and buying gold from off-sites, it is detrimental to the games, and that’s why there are always measures taken against it. It’s different from pirating games, or playing on your own private server. (Pirating leads a lot of people to getting the real deal and pirate games don’t work online on the real servers nowadays). As a gamer, just seeing gold sellers, farmers, and bots turns you away from the game.

I studied this looong and hard, and am prepared to come up with logical reasons to show why it’s not good for the game.

@kenshinakh,
Who knows, perhaps a lot of the gaming companies are in league with the gold farmers and split the profits??? Would explain a lot of the apathy that goes on...

There could be, but I wouldn’t count on it since it does give a bad impression to players. On the server I was on, it was pretty desolate and we were ranked pretty low on WvW due to our population. When Anet took action against the bots/farmers, there was noticeable increase in server moral. We weren’t known anymore as the “bot” server, and activity increased.

As far as I can see, Anet gathers a lot of data and statistics before doing bans on bot types. The old bots no longer work right and get caught pretty quickly. So it’s just a matter of time before Anet does a ban wave of these new bots and fix the exploits they use.

I’ve always figured the asian MMOs own their own gold selling companies, thus creating a large ring of money laundering for the gaming mafia which NCSoft presides over….just kidding NC…or am I?
