For every 10 crates, 1 guaranteed skin
This applies to RNG as a whole. That’s why other MMOs use a token based system which creates a ceiling on your efforts. This was recognized after fractals was released and now there’s a daily token you can get — this caps the maximum time expenditure on a player’s part to 10 days for an ascended ring.
The example was off topic, but the rest is relevant. Eliminate RNG and implement deterministic reward and crafting systems.
This idea allows Anet to sell RNG chest. And also would help Anet to sell more chests. Because players have less than 10 dropped chest opened. Will be more likely to buy some chests. If there was a guarantee that they would get a skin.

I don’t RNG in the game. But Anet and Ncsoft doesn’t seem to be backing away from RNG. This idea would at least make RNG less of a ripoff.
If you could get it guaranteed after 10, it wouldn’t really count as “rare”.

Same would go for rares obtained by using the dragon timer.
The solution for RNG lottery boxes is simple… stop buying them.
Anet in the end have one goal… to make money. Everything they do (and love doing, I’m not trying to talk bad about them) is related to this, that includes creating a great game they also love to play, and keeping us happy playing it. Each skin has a cost associated to it, an artist spent a certain amount of paid working time creating it, testers spent paid time testing it, and so on.
They have offered both ways to get BL store skins in the past, direct purchase (armor skins, christmas weapon skins, rox’s quiver, braham’s mace and shield) and RNG (fused weapon skins, halloween weapon skins, and now the scleretic (sp?) skins), so they must know from past experience which style sell the most.
The fact that they keep using the RNG style means that it sells very well, and from their point of view it means that there is an audience within the game that likes it in the first place (remember that the forum population is only a very small percentage of the game population, and is not really representative of the whole), and can you blame them when you read threads of people getting 100 of them or more?.
If RNG boxes were to sell for relatively little compared to the cost of making the new skins (including the lost cost of opportinity if they were to sell better as direct skin sales), I assure you they’d never use the RNG system in the future. They keep using it just because it works, and we have only us gamers in general to blame for it.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
With the new Dragon Bash festival coming on june 11. Anet should think about trying out my idea in this post. Because the new RNG “Dragon Coffer” are going to turn more players away from the game. If they do not get anything of value for their money.

If you don’t like rubbish odds then don’t buy real-money lottery tickets.
Well this would be an honest and sensible thing to do, it provides ANet with steady income and players with steady rewards.
Which means it’s never going to happen, mostly because of the honesty part.

I’m afraid you’re right on this. Anet is hanging out with a bad crowd after all “Ncsoft”.
Example:
*Supply Crate
Open 10 Supply Crate to get 1 weapon ticket in the mail.
Players earn 1 ticket for every 10 Supply Crates opened.*Black Lion Chests
Open 10 Black Lion Chests to get 1 rare item/skin in the mail.
Players earn 1 rare item/skin for every 10 Black Lion Chests opened.
Why not just cut out the middle man and sell the skin on the TP?

Anet is determined to destroy their company with these RNG chests. This idea allows Anet to make their extra money. And still guarantee players a reward.
Players who only want one ticket it comes out cheaper for them. Buy farming gold for the first 5 chests. Then if they don’t have the gold to buy gems for the 2nd 5 chests. They will then spend 10 dollars on gems. That leaves 650 extra gems.
Where Anet makes more money is from players who want more than one weapon ticket.

Yes but if you put a ceiling on the RNG it’s no longer really RNG except for when it works in the player favor… which NCsoft most certinly would not want.
What I’m saying is if they want both they should just put the Prize (In this case the skin ticket) on the TP for a price and then also allow it to be won from the RNG chest.
At least the price would give us a good indication for what they expect us to pay for it.
Guaranteed drops makes weapons, armours you name it worthless, that is not what I would want in a game.

You really believe RNG Casino loot is better?

Yep, even though I am always unlucky in almost every game I play. I do not like guaranteed drops, because they will become worthless in a matter of time.
Ever played Diablo 3 for instance? Not too many here would have I guess, Skorn a two handed axe dropped so much that it became boring, everyone was running with it because there was no better 2 handed weapon at the time.
i would not like to run around with a group where every char has the same stuff :/

Gem store skins and skins earned through events are two different things.
If you get a skin through a RNG chest. You did not earn the skin. It’s luck or you spent a lot of money on it. There is no prestige in RNG items.
If you want a rare prestige item, it should be available through grinding non RNG content.
RNG skins are a terrible idea that works on paper but fails in execution. They only end up alienating the community when the one skin you want can’t be obtained because 1. it’s a super rare random drop in a game that has by default a terrible drop rate and 2. It cannot be bought or sold on TP because it is soul/account bound. I have opened 100 dragon coffers and haven’t gotten a single weapon skin token.
I propose that from now on, all new skins they come up with become available as recipes in the mystic forge and on the gem store no rng needed. Let the players work towards a goal rather than depend on luck.

As I’ve stated in another post, if that just have to use this stupid rng kitten, then at least put the weapons in the gem store after the event is over. Those whom want to gamble for it get to try first and those whom don’t merely need to wait 2 to 3 weeks. Anet still makes money either way.

That is a REALLY good idea. Everyone keeps harping how tradeskills are worthless but if you could use them to craft these items… They’d just get sold and the tradeskills would still be worthless because everyone would just buy them off the TP from the few crafters that did it.
But what if the version you could make from crafting were soulbound on creation? Wouldn’t that encourge more use of tradeskills? You can’t complain “But I’m X tradeskill” since you have the option of learning as many as you want.
This should be disucssed at length IMO, maybe even as it’s own post. I might think on this and even make a new video on it cause I really think you’re on to something here. Anyone got any more thoughts on this?
