Forcing right click targeting is a bad idea
i was just about to post this exact same suggestion for the exact same reasons. not only does right click select whatever target your mouse is over, but it will engage auto-attack even with the “stop autoattack on target change” option selected. this means when you’re simply moving your camera around (which hides the cursor making it difficult to know if it will reappear over a targetable object) can potentially engage you with a target you don’t want to be engaged with. running between locations while not in combat can be disrupted by this function because you’ll suddenly start attacking a nearby target putting you in combat movement speed. similarly while fighting it can make you start attacking a target you don’t intend to, even start launching attacks at friendly targets (potentially wasting an elite or a burst) or prompting the interact function if you’re close enough, bringing up a dialog box during combat.
oh, and a similar problem i have is clicking the interact prompt when i don’t want to, again bringing up a dialog box when i don’t want it. this happens very rarely, only when i’m trying to target something that happens to be in the same place on my screen as the prompt. i’d still want to see the prompt to know when i can interact with objects, but maybe have an option to disable clicking to interact or the ability to change the interface and move the prompt location where i’m less likely to click it accidentally.
It’s not the click and release, bramble. It’s worse than that.
GW2 selects target on mousedown. Not onclick. You don’t even need to mouseup for the target to change. Try it sometime.
Wow, just checked Raphael and you’re right, that’s even worse than I thought… I just don’t understand why right click targeting is even an option, does anybody use it?
I’ve been having other strange things happen with the mouse too.
I get the right click to pan targets random object issue.
I also get a problem where my mouse will randomly jump to the sides of my screen.
I have my Win taskbar to my left, and I have the charm bar to my right (running Win 8 ), because of the mouse jumping issue I’ve opened random programs, minimized my game while fighting…
I’ve also managed to right click and kick party members, because this weird jumping issue almost always happens when I’m right clicking….
I think there is more wrong with the right click than it randomly target objects (which usually aren’t where my mouse is supposed to be anyway!)
