This is not a deal-breaker by any means, but I would like to request that we be able to display an avatar in the forum.

The main reason is that I enjoy recognizing people from thread to thread, and name.numbers don’t help me do that as well. It also gives a bit of personality and personal expression to the discussions.

Like I said, not a big deal, but just a wish.

Small feature but would be nice, the name.number makes it feel almost like real life. People only care about you by your social security number :P.

Definitely this. If I can’t have an image in my sig at least let me have an avatar Even if it’s just small.

Many popular forums do have avatars for their users. I want my avatar now. I demand it. Account avatars gives game accounts character too. Some forums even allow user upload-able avatars also. With supervision and restrictions, this could be a nice addition to the forums.

I completely agree with this. Being able to see your avatar gives it a more personal feel to it.

An avatar would be cool, so long as we don’t have people with inappropriate pictures. If that came to pass, I would suggest maybe making the avatars our characters. Think about it; when you go into parties in game, your character’s face is placed in a certain way. Maybe it could be linked to the forums and made your pic (you can choose which character of yours shows). But all of that is if inappropriate pictures are an issue.

^ This is brilliant. If even possible, never seen it done before though. Otherwise a reasonably large pool of preset avatar choices would be great. Allowing people to have custom avatars introduces the need for additional moderation or an approval process for avatar choices, which can become annoying to both us (delays) and the staff (extra work with minimal purpose).

At the risk of being infracted for referencing you-know-what, the battlenet (ie WoW) forums automatically use a headshot of your character as your avatar. I would not mind that here.

The game can generate portraits dynamically.

It’ll be nice if there was an option somewhere in-game to save one of your characters as default portrait.

Then the game would generate it, and upload it to the game servers, the servers send them to the forums, and even periodically change it when your character changes.

I’d really like it if I could use my in game party-portrait as a forum avatar. Otherwise, I’m happy with it being blank.

Would be a good idea. It would be nice to show off your favorite char/armor, etc.

I am bumping this, because I was thinking the same thing and it needs to happen!

To be honest, when I first came to these forums when it opened I was excited when I saw the sylvari woman silhouette by our account login thinking that it would be replaced by our main character in-game. So far nothing has been done with it. Darn.

It can be easily done and I know of other games that do it with their forums (MapleStory for example) and even fan forums have access to the files and can link your in-game main characters avatar (face and shoulders) to the forum accounts. Some even go as far as including their characters lvl, class, race and exp points.

I would love this like no other, because to be frank, these forums need more to it other than blank whiteness under our names. Personality and customization have always been a biggie for me.

Another bonus is that you wouldn’t have to monitor and moderate the avatars people upload because everyone has their character and only their character there.

It’s a win-win in my book.

I just want to upload an avatar on here but for some reason this forum doesn’t have that feature enabled. Would be nice if Anet enabled custom avatars. I’d rather make my own than have the game spit out a character mug shot, tho that would be better than nothing. :p
