After my experiences on these forums in both posting and creating threads I have 2 suggestions.
1. A lifespan – A created thread auto-closes after x number of days. x= what the mods determine. No one ever checks topic postings before creating a topic so thread redundancy runs rampant.

2 OP closable threads. I had a seven plus page thread thankfully, finally closed after it had been off-topic for at least 3 pages worth of content. I got infracted twice in the process. I can’t and don’t expect mods to police content for what is on or off topic beyond what they do, but after I posted a request to have my thread closed due to it being off topic and was ignored… that caused my frustration and subsequent infractions. To avoid any unsavory OP initiated thread closures, the OP would not be allowed to comment in the closure post. Click the close post button … click verify … thats it.

The redundant threads are probably because search is not working all that well, so even the folks that do look aren’t finding much. I have mad search fu and wasn’t able to find threads I knew existed. If you see a redundant thread and you know of another exact same thread, flag it and ask the moderators to merge it.

If a thread goes off topic, don’t keep posting in it. Flag the off topic post and let the moderators help get it back on track. Just because you started the thread doesn’t mean you should be able to squash the discussion.

I think a lot of folks are viewing moderators as the Imposers of Infractions when they are in actuality here to keep the forums useful. The community can help them do that by bringing things to their attention.

If you’re in a thread that is missing the report flag, there’s a work around. Just click on the permanent link, and edit the end of the url so that it is /postnumber/report.

Don’t ever think you know what’s right for the other person.
