Fractal Weapon - a short moan & suggestion
Doesnt sound like a bad idea, or atleast if you put 4 fractal weapons into mystic you get random fractal weapon without possibility getting one of the models you putted in. I have no alts and so far ive gotten pistol (i can use this one) and warhorn, axe, shield, scepter and those are literally wothless to me i cant do anything with it i would like some use for those.
Also please make dungeon currencies like laurels its crazy how much space tokens and rings eats up. And how about ascedend rings? Should i start vendor them or will ever be some use for them? Also maybe some agony adjustments after lvl 40. I think we should be able to survive jade maw with 35 ar on lvl 40. We are doing lvl40+ anyway its just annoying not challenging…

I got my first fractal skin today, the Hammer. I am very pleased with it. Fractal weapon skins tend to be as rare as legendaries, if not more so. They are quite unique and I think a linear progression towards them is a good idea.

yeah been doing daily 26/28 for 2 weeks for now 15 daily tokens and 0 ring/0 fotm skins. i really hate rng . I really hope there is some way to get them weapons skins just like the rings.

I’ve run…I don’t even know how many FOTM 26s and 30s. ALOT. I got the fractal mace early on. Nothing since then.
Would be fine with them being extra expensive with pristine relics or something. (75 pristine relics for weapon of your choice perhaps). That’d be something. If it cost a bunch of regular relics and some mats too like the OP said, that’d also be fine.

Creating huge costs like that will not be fun at all. Would be much simpler for a daily to have the chance to reward a “Fractal weapon token” instead of a random weapon.

I had a few different suggestions for the fractal skins and how they could be better made accessible.
First Method:
Like the rings, make the option to buy the fractal skins with the pristine fractal relics that you get 1 for per daily. Set the price at a reasonably high price like 30-50, this way it takes a longer time to get but, in the end, you would be able to buy the skin you want. Only downside would be is that as the game goes on more and more people will have the fractal skins compared to if it was based on the current RNG.
Second Method:
Keep the rarity of the fractal skins as they are as far as percentage of them dropping from the bonus chest. In this case, however, instead of getting an actual fractal weapon (typically one you didn’t want) you could get a token that could then be traded for the skin you wanted while still keeping it account-bound. Downside with this method is it stays rare with the current RNG and some may still not receive any while others could receive 3+.

In general I am against the idea of soulbound weapons because some professions, namely Thief and Engineer, just get shafted. It’s already a small enough chance to get some exotic drops with unique skins, but then for those professions its an even smaller chance of actually being able to use it.
That said, @Dante, Fractal weapons are account bound. So if you get one you can’t use on one character, then you can swap it to another character. As most things should be.
I’m also not against the super rare drops. The method now seems to favor the lucky, but really everyone has the same chance. The method being proposed favors farmers and encourages relentless grind.
Ideally you would want acquisition to be skill based, but in reality that’s really hard to design around every time you add something new and once one person figures out the most effective method then the rest of the world can just look it up on the internet and duplicate. Where is the skill in imitation and what significance does that achievement hold now? Arguably, only the first few people to complete the challenge legitimately earned the reward.
The best solution, that encourages skilled play and personal progression that also shows some consideration towards players with careers and families and maintains the rarity and prestige of the item…is a random chest reward. The skill is getting to Fractal lvl 22+, the progression is the ascended gear required for that level, the consideration is that everyone at their respective level has the same opportunity.
A compromise would not involve a MF recipe, or buying with pristine relics or a huge amount of normal relics. Because those would encourage low fractal level farming/grinding. It is not a reward for anything other than having free time. The best compromise would be to increase the drop chance of the weapons for higher levels. You achieved a greater level of individual skill and progressed further than players of a lower level in the same reward tier (0-9, 10-20, 20-30 etcetera) and for recognition of that, you are more likely to loot a Fractal weapon or higher end reward than those players. Can we say for sure this isn’t how it works already?

This is correct. RNG gets much better in the later levels with the skins. When 50+ was available, most of my friends/guildmates who were high up there got a skin each day. So if you really want the skins, you should level up some more.

Only problem is, sadly I’ve been hearing from friends who have friends at the 40+ difficulties is that its no longer possible to even do 40, now whether that’s with or without the amulet is unclear, and the fact that he’s at 34 ( part of the 30 tier), which is claimed to now be the “max” tier proves that the RNG for the fractal skins is still super rare and like everything else that isn’t a recipe or bought from any type of token, based on luck.

You can do T5 (40-49) pretty easily right now if you have a good group. You just can’t go beyond that because ANet hiked the Agony damage you suffer; you cannot do Jade Maw at 50+ right now. Technically you could still progress, however, if you had a friend at a higher level who would do odd levels with you (you just couldn’t get the daily chests, which is the whole point).
Im not sure 34 is the max. I joined a lvl 38 group last night and my personal level was only 29 (a friend pm and invited me cause group needed a thief). My AR is only 25 and the only problem I had with Agony was from the Maw on his second or third phase cast.
Unless the agony jump from 38 to 40 is enormous, it doesnt seem so bad. It definitely shouldn’t be insurmountable for people at lvl 34 with 25-35 AR.

I don’t have any fractal weapons yet. But I am perfectly fine with they are found. At least having one shows you worked for it and you put forth some effort. I’ll grind fractals forever till I get one. Still a better chance than a precureser.

Account bound. Never soul bound. The only things that should be soul bound are story items or rewards for an achievement that are tailored for you character. Ultra rare RNG items should always be account bound so you can use it on any of your characters. Otherwise it’s three times as difficult for Engi’s to loot something useful, and twice as difficult for Thieves and Eles (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Weapons).
And Fractal weapons are account bound. That dude was just wrong.

I’ve worked my kitten off for these skins and I’ve recieved the same useless skin over and over again; it’s f’n rediculous. I would like to show that I worked hard for these rare skins so how about a system where I can trade one skin for another 1 for 1. I believe that’s fair.
Heck keep the RNG rare as it shows commitment but getting a skin you can’t use so many times isn’t motivating.
Let me trade 3 for the type of weapon i want in the mystic toilet i happy with that…and looking at the drop rate its not much…

It’s possible to go 40+, with a small res trick to mitigate agony ticks. I have agony resist at 35 and doing 40-48, I can tell you it does help but you will still die at maw (at least as a guardian) I still havn’t tried allied healing/ressing skills though, but I definitely still cannot self-heal my way out.

I’ve done 450 fractals, about 1/3 of them above level 30, and gotten 1 (longbow) skin.
My only complaint is the fact that you get people with 300 fractals or less, barely past lvl 30, and they have 4 skins already. The disparity is crummy. The drop rate is not consistent at all.
I would definitely appreciate a way to BUY the skins with pristine relics. Even 20 relics would be acceptable. Just want a way to guarantee the skin I want.
Considering they’re rudely made statless and force u to use Fine Transmutation stones, I’m surprised getting the one you want is as tedius as it is. Would sell more Transmutation stones in gem store.
I’ve done 202 so far (and already very bored with them) and have Scepter and Longbow. Thief is my main and mainly after the dagger.
