Hey All,

First off, I want to say off the bat I’m not sure this forum is the right place for this post. If it’s not, could the mods please move it somewhere more appropriate.

Earlier in the year Arenanet mentioned that they were going to add more fractals to the game. This was accompanied by several posts here talking about what people would like in the new fractals. At that time I decided instead of just asking for content, I’d put what I thought would be cool down on paper.

So, here are my suggestions for new fractals to be added. Due to the forums having a weird character limit, I’ve had to put the full text somewhere else with comparable licensing; the GW1 Wiki. Link to the full text; http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedback:User/MularcTemplare/New_Fractal_Designs

This is the list of what’s contained within, repeated over there, but here to allow easy viewing.

The numbered fractals would be added to the current rotation, and the bonus fractals would be joined with the Solid Ocean Fractal to make a rotation of bonus fractals, appearing only as the 4th fractal in a set with every even level of fractals.

The List

1. Desert Fractal
Players travel through the crystal desert before it appeared in Guild Wars 1, and must either activate, and survive the use of the ancient weapon, or protect a priest as she ascends one of the towers to read the people’s petition to the gods themselves.

2. Bottomless Pit Fractal
In this fractal, players will jump into the bottomless pit found in the Far Shiverpeaks in Guild Wars, and attempt to work their way down to the core of the world.

3. Rooftop Fractal
In this fractal, players will be chasing thieves, who have stolen the Krytan Royal Artefacts, across the rooftops of Divinity’s Reach and into top floors of houses along the way before having a standoff in the upper reaches of the castle.

4. Workshop Fractal
In this fractal, players will infiltrate a Flame Legion workshop and attempt to stop their weapon production.

5. Great Tree Fractal
In this fractal, players will defend the Hidden Tree from the corruption seeping into it.

6. Zaishen Fractal
In this fractal, players will attempt to evacuate as many of the Zaishen as possible from the Battle Isles, which are sinking due to Orr’s rise.

7. Market Fractal (Elona)
In this fractal, players will have to manouver through a large crowd of NPC’s to find, expose, and eliminate the Mysterious Assassins hidden within.

8. Exile Fractal (Cantha)
In this fractal, players will break a political prisoner out of Shaisong Prison, and make their way West to the Refuge, or East to the Echovald.

9. Vanishing Fractal (Utopia)
In this fractal, players will attempt to navigate the vanishing island of the coast of the unknown continent before it’s too late.

10. Library Fractal(Cantha 2)
In this fractal, players will venture into the heart of the library and eliminate the darkness within.

11. Ancient City Fractal (Elona 2)
In this fractal, players will attempt to locate and protect the Queens within the chaos of the Ancient City.

12. Mountain Pass Fractal
In this fractal, players will investigate the village, and defend against the attacking minor legion.

Bonus Fractals
- Boreal Fractal
In this fractal players will chase down, and face off against, Feodor.

- Arena Fractal
In this fractal, players will participate in players will participate in an arena style death-match with groups of foes spawning in each of the rounds, before facing off against the champion of the arena.

- Summoner’s Fractal
In this fractal, players will venture into a chain of floating islands, to free the trapped summoner inside.

- Coast Fractal
In this fractal, players will defend themselves on the voyage from the Battle Isles to Tyria.

Hi and thanks for your good ideas.

I’m afraid currently some other fractals are being develloped allready. I do hope that after that the rest off the game gets some love as well (specially continuation of the elder dragon main story).

The fractals being develloped (all three confirmed).
Explosion of the Thaumanova Reactor.
A rework of the molten alliance dungeon into a fractal.
A rework of the (first) aetherblade dungeon into a fractal.

As for your suggestions. Some are great,some I would oppose a bit. So the fact that I’m not calling them out means I’m actually for that one:

3: I think that divinity’s reach shouldn’t be changed. They did that with Rata Sum, but I didn’t really liked it, cause it is a different city cause there are jumping elements.If they do something like that, it has to be the same as the real divinity’s reach, but that means making it harder to jump.

5: Great tree: I think this is bout the lore off the ‘other’ pale tree. I think that that is a story that should be told in the main personal story and not in a fractal. If you mean another corupted tree, then I still think that it is too simular to that (possible/likely) future main storyline.

9: Utopia: Nothing against the concept, but in my opinion Utopia doesnt exist. The problem with Utopia is that it was in devellopement when it was canceled. Many (good) elements have been adapted for use in GW-EotN and even more for use in GW2. so all that remains of Utopia are cuttings on the floor, leftovers, etc. Thats why in my opinion it is better to see Utopia as non-existing.

Last off all an adition of my own:
(Bonus fractal): Doric’s Plea
In this fractal the players have alternate skillsets that are much more powerfull then usual, but the foes are significant stronger too. The goal is to escort King Doric to the gods through pre-cataclysm Arah. so he can make his plea to remove/reduce magic.

Just a brief correction…according to one of the devs (I can’t find the quote due to an inadequate search engine but I’m sure this is true because I was corrected on it), the city in the harpy fractal is not actually Rata Sum.

The reason it looks that way is because Asuran architecture, like many, build on similar designs, but it’s just an Asuran built area from some past time.

I don’t want to start a new thread, as what I’d like to discuss about is concerning Fractals of the Mist. First of all, thanx Anet for that.. mmhhhh.. I prefer to talk about instance than dungeon.

What Mularc is talking about is interesting, as this instance allows you to introduce more and more levels for explaining some historical points of the GuildWars universe, but still, actually, the rewards aren’t that useful.

As you are giving to people more agony resistance with Ascended items, it could be great to re-exploit the fractals. Once we have dropped infused ascended rings and crafter the backpiece, vials, shards, but also pristine and normal fractal relics have no more use.

It could be interesting to buy, with relics, other accessories. But also why not using vials and shards in crafting, as a replacement piece for dragonites and so on? Entering a fractal level can be very quick, but also take a lot of time and once you have dropped enought skins and rings, the only other goal now is to have the higher level, but without a real reward (yes, we can drop chests containing ascended weapons, still it’s happening from lvl 20 ).

As you are introducing ascended armors, maybe you could think of a fractal armor set, and by the way giving new opportunities to fractals?

Of course, I am always happy to loot stuff from. Still my bank is full of rings and skins. If we can salvage fractal skins, we can’t do nothing with rings. Why not salvaging them? Black matter, ectoplams, orichalcum? I don’t know but it could be a new way to remotivate people about fractals.

Of course, lots of improvements could be given. Like having orichalcum sources in some levels, as ancient wood, or omnomberries. It’s a lvl 80 dungeon, taking time, and so it could be great to have specific farming into. And if it isn’t the right stuff to do there, economically speaking, why not, then, attribue more specific ones, like crystals or azurite?

Be sure I want to present these criticisms as constructive ones. FotM are already that good, but with time, once the main characters are stuffed, lots of players are not practicing them anymore.
