I realize there have been an infinite number of related threads, but the FOTM issue is one that cannot be ignored any longer. We have had huge guild content, WvW, sPvP, and other PvE patches, but FOTM has been completely ignored for months (minus bug/exploit fixes). If nothing is done, I can see FOTM dying altogether.

Here’s a compiled list of NEEDED improvements:

  • Reward Scaling – Getting consistently better rewards at lv20 than lv40 is NOT okay under any circumstances. As it is, FOTM is completely unrewarding for the time/effort needed to complete higher levels. Instead of just getting hundreds of blues/greens and t5 mats, rare/exotics and t6 mats should have much higher chances of dropping lv40+.
  • Fractal Weapons – The RNG system for fractal weapons is horrible. A few changes could be made to alleviate the issue. Perhaps you’d get a ‘Fractal Weapon Ticket’ instead of a random fractal weapon, or allow fractal weapons to be purchased by pristine fractal relics (maybe 40 pristine relics per weapon). Another option would be to GREATLY increase the drop chance of fractal weapon skins lv40+, thus actually giving people a reason to do higher level runs.
  • Ascended Rings – Many dedicated FOTM players have accumulated dozens and dozens of ‘trash’ ascended rings. The only option is to vendor them, which is an unacceptable course of action for a piece of ascended gear. Here are a few different solutions; Mystic Forge – Allow 4 random ascended rings to be put into the mystic forge, to get a random ring in return (with a chance of being infused): Salvage – Allow ascended rings to be salvaged; the materials acquired could be various levels of mist essence, globs of ectoplasm, and maybe even regular/pristine fractal relics: Exchange – Allow a player to exchange one ascended ring for another ring, or for an amount of pristine fractal relics (this would be done at a vendor).
  • Fractal Balance – While variety in fractal difficulty is good, some fractals are overwhelmingly out of balance. The fractal that comes to mind is the Underground Facility (aka dredge) fractal, which takes an eternity due to its numerous long/tedious encounters. Rebalancing and revising certain encounters would make fractals more fun and less tedious.
  • New Fractals – It has been stated that new fractals would be added at some point, but so far there haven’t been any new fractals introduced. Along with the many other changes above, I think adding new fractals would breath new life into the dungeon, and make it more desirable to those who have quit.
  • Guild Influence – This is somewhat minor, but fractals doesn’t give guilds any form of influence for completion. Seeing that it’s the hardest dungeon, I think fractals should give guilds the same (if not more) influence as if they had completed any other dungeon.

I really enjoy fractals, its general premise is intriguing and the mechanics of the different fractals are (for the most part) fun and interesting. Many others and I, though, have quit fractals due to the rewards not scaling properly to the time/effort it takes to complete higher levels. I would love to start doing the dungeon again, but it needs a major overhaul first.

hard not to agree with everything you’ve said but will they do it? No. Why? Because it takes time/money and they prefer adding new crap to gem store and timed casual mini dungeons.

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

They have separate teams working on separate tasks, so what they do with the Gem Store or Living Story doesn’t take anything away from the Fractals.

Only fools and heroes charge in without a plan.

Don’t forget that the gem store is what pays to keep the lights on at Anet. It’s there because it’s what keeps them in business. Be glad it’s only fluff in the store, as opposed to stuff you need.

As to the temp content? That’s catering to the majority of the playerbase.

The subset who like fractals (grind for the sake of grind) were vocal enough on the forums to get them implemented. I’m certain that when they get around to introducing more fractal crap, the grinders will flock back. Anet is going to be very circumspect in this though, because they already lost a large chunk of the playerbase when the ascended gear was introduced, and the grindfest that is fractals was brought in.

I’d not be surprised if they took a long time before addressing any changes to something that was that controversial.
