I feel that tacking on a significant cost to using waypoints was a huge mistake. In GW1, fast travel was totally free, you weren’t punished for wanting to simply visit someplace you haven’t been in a while. With all of the money sinks that are already in this game, do we really need another such as waypoint costs?

Actually, it’s necessary to charge something. Otherwise certain kinds of farming would become too lucrative.

I do think, though, that they need to change the price of the nearest one to about half of what it would be. Or, maybe all within a certain radius.

I honestly think they should have a set price and not an inflating one with our levels if they keep the waypoint fee.

What happened, did my lovely necromancer get fat as she leveled up?

Besides, has ANet started doing anything about the teleport hack? I’ve been seeing quite often at gathering nodes. Obviously somebody found a way around the waypoint fee.

The Tyrian Explorer’s Society should make waypoints free in any zone where you have attained 100% completion. That would make their silly little congratulatory note MEAN something.

Prices are out of whack. I used waypoints without a second thought when I was low level and poor. It was an acceptable money sink. Now that I am level 80, I often walk instead of waypointing because I have so many other expensive things I need to save for.

The GW2 creators have continually gone out of their way to state how they want to make the game FUN first and foremost. Well they have effectively removed my ability to get from place to place very quickly now. Not fun.

At this point it would be a very, very bad idea as it would add a lot of gold into the game which means inflation.

I can’t help but share the same desire for free waypoint travel and several other features from the good time in GW1 that brought me here in the first place; however I solemnly give that Oglaf makes a good point. More money in circulation means inflation.

The whole game is supposed to revolve around exploring, waypoints limit this, and limit the fun… The “fun” part comes from the fact that instead of porting around using Waypoints you move through the map, encountering people and events all the way…. That’s way more fun and than porting in order to farm one event over and over again. Try making your walk more enjoyable instead of just passing by runnign through everything.

Hard to say what the solution to this should be, if indeed it’s a “problem” at all. I will give the benefit of the doubt to people who say that we still need waypoints to be a gold sink for the sake of the economy, and it certainly seems reasonable that people would abuse them for farming purposes.
But, could we reduce the costs of these waypoints, to some degree? I’m okay with them scaling to level, but maybe scale up a little… less? You level so fast in this game, whether or not you’ve figured out a money-making plan.

The thing is, the waypoint costs don’t affect all players equally. To the very rich players who have all the money in the world and know how to make it, this is a drop in the bucket and only serves to keep them making their money faster. To the less experienced, poorer, or otherwise struggling players, though, the cost is felt more sharply.

A few silver at 80 is nothing to sneeze at, even if it’s fairly easy to make it back by selling some of what you find. I definitely agree that the costs should be cheaper if you’re travelling less distance. Give us the option to run halfway over, or something.

The whole game is NOT supposed to revolve around exploring. It is supposed to revolve around YOU and whatever you prefer doing. Exploring, PvE, PvP, WvW, whatever.

If I have the waypoint, then I have ALREADY explored the area. It is NOT fun for me to run through the same area again and again and again (with multiple characters).

Exploring means seeing NEW things, so I want to be able to jump rapidly to the edge of my UNexplored area.

And if I have 100% completion, then believe me I did not just “move through the map”. It has been thoroughly explored.

Come on, Tyrian Explorer’s Society… give us free waypoints for 100% map completion!

Seems they just want to screw you out of your “virtual” money, just like the goverment want to tax you untill you bleed.

There’s no point to waypoint costs, they should be free, it’s a game and doesn’t cost ArenaNet anything to do away with the costs.

It’s just another money sink like repair cost’s and the “taxes” charged by the trading post, we get enough pay and pay some more in real life without getting it in a “game” as well.

Jumping puzzles, love them or hate them, I hate them. Thread killer.
