This isn’t necessarily something I think ArenaNet should get onto right now, it’s just a thought. I don’t think GW2 needs to scramble to get as many players as possible, and I don’t think it’s really in any danger of losing people right now. Nonetheless, I’m tired of reading dramatic goodbye posts in these forums from people who have decided that they way the game is designed is somehow never going to appeal to anyone, because it doesn’t appeal to them.

At some point in the future (around Wintersday or after, even?) it would be cool to give people the option of trying GW2 out without having to buy it. I found in beta that ten levels of content was enough to get a feel for a profession and get rather addicted to the gameplay The reason I suggest this is that I think there are a lot of people who wouldn’t normally buy an MMO, but would enjoy GW2. I’d love to see ArenaNet more able to reach out to these people, and convince them to give it a try.

No. Invite gold spammers to have a free way to harass us. Why not do what they’ve done and has worked so well, and not do what you’re saying?

I do understand the risks of the free trial idea, and it may be that it’s not worth it. It would undoubtedly bring a bunch of trolls who want to harass anyone who likes this game, because apparently that’s what gamers are like. Still, I do think it would be nice if people could try out GW2 because I believe it would appeal to a lot of people who would never think to try it otherwise. I can’t always just let them have a go on my computer.

What they’re doing now is fantastic – I’m not disputing that. And it has attracted plenty of people. But there are different people out there, is all I’m saying.

If you don’t want to check the minimum system requirements/don’t know your own system well, go there. They’ll tell you if you can run it.

And, well, with no subscription fee, just wait for the price on the game to drop, say, after it’s been out a year, and even the most reluctant person will likely try it, especially if they’ve got a friend who suggests it.

There’s still big queues to get in to WvW, long times spent in overflow, a massive number of gold spammers, and serious account security issues right now, but I guess, if the population evens out, the gold spammers and hackers move on to the next big game, then yeah, trails wouldn’t be too bad of an idea.

Just, not now, or any time soon. Not until the whole game is up and running and all the way fixed. Once that happens, this has my vote.

I agree with a 7 days / 14h trial as GW1 has. Its better to see if your computer can run the game then buy it and not be able to play it. This type of trial can appeal to the hard core gamer to play 14h straight or to the casual gamer who can have 2h/day for 7 days

Trial accounts should be restricted:
- no World PvP
- no access to the trading post
- no access to the mail system

That way, there would be less problems with gold sellers, spammers and spies.

That place doesn’t always work. Apparently I couldn’t play this game no way no how.
I run 10-30fps. Another friend way better PC than me passed min then fps lags just the same lol. As a free trial there should be like Nactnebel said also the cap could be like 20-25.

So, if you are a total noob, how can you actually ask people for guidance? The “no chat” option is the most stupid restriction that can be added in any MMO.
It eliminates the social interaction between players. You can limit like 1 time / minute in world chat and have it unlimited in local (/s), party (/p) guild (/g) – yea, let free trials get into guilds so they may find new people to play with.
The no mail, no TP, no WvW are super sufficient as restrictions as someone said above

How about a Trial Server, if they buy the game they get a free server transfer to a non-trial server. The trial is there to get people to try the game out, see how well it runs on their system and see if they like the game mechanics.

Another idea, one that would let people try the game with thier friends before buying would be to grant Veteran players Trial Keys they can give out to their friends, good to get them on the same server only as the Veteran player linked to the token. Only Vets who’s accounts are in good standing recieve trial keys. The Vets can then get a new key once the Trial account is upgraded or after a certain ammount of time if the account is not upgraded. Vets who invite players who are then reported as botters/spammers/gold sellers should have their ability to get Trial keys either revoked or suspended.

No chat access. So if you are just trying out the game, for the first 10 levels, in what... a 3 day trial (cause that’s all the time you’d really need) you could run around, do events, try out every profession, and starting zone, without being able to spam.

Trial people don’t need to ask questions, and let’s face it, most of the questions lowbies ask can be easily solved by the /wiki command that *everyone* should know about by now.

Absolutely not! Don’t even bother with the trial at all if you implement this. I would not encourage one of my friends to try a game if I could not talk to them/help them while they did so
