First of all, I have to say, I totally understand the promotion of free upgrade to deluxe version for new customers. It is a sales gimmick, aiming to attract new players and to boost the sales of the product. I am not against GW2 having promotional items and stuff. However, I do feel that it seems a bit unfair to those players who previously purchased the deluxe version. The introduction of the deluxe version is supposed to give a bit of extra advantage or cutting edge to the game as compared to the normal version, hence the extra $20USD is justifiable. However, since the deluxe version is enjoyable to all new users now without any additional cost, it kinda make those people who previously purchased it looked stupid. Although $20USD isn’t a lot to many, I do feel that those people can be rewarded or compensated with some freebies or even gems to make up for the extra cost. Instead of having a headstart, one is now on level terms with others and yet having to pay more.

Would that be like saying that a $20 drop on a WoW expansion isn’t fair to those who pre-ordered at full price?
No.
It’s a sales promotion. It’s not a full-time thing, just for a short while. Like sales prices for things dropping over the festive season

I don’t believe that those who payed $20 for the deluxe edition should be compensated anything, really. It’s $20, plus as you said, this is to try and get new players to the game It’s not unfair, it’s just a promo.

Plus, one can get the deluxe edition upgrade for gems, which you can buy with gold and not spend the $20. I only have the normal version and i’m fine with that. Deluxe version gives you freebies in the first place (The Rytlock mini plus the mistfire wolf elite skill), so that’s fair, isn’t it? Plus, it’s not like i’m asking to be upgraded to the deluxe version for free because others can pay for normal and get deluxe for free…

Well… this is exactly my point! There isn’t any difference between buying a deluxe and normal version anymore, so why pay more? There is no longer any sense of superiority for those who paid for the deluxe version, when the term “deluxe” is supposed to mean something.

There was no sense of superiority in the first place.
You paid for perks, including a mini, elite skill etc.

You shouldn’t be compensated for paying for those additional goodies, at all.
I think asking for gems and other stuff because a company is trying to generate interest in their product and get some new players, is greedy.

Lol… greedy seems like a strong word to use isn’t it? When u pay more for something, logically u do expect to be getting more. In the first place, when the deluxe version is first launched, it wasn’t made known to others that the normal version is able to be upgraded. Of cos u can argue that u can earn gold and exchange for gems and later convert the version into deluxe, however, looking at the current exchange rate, do you think it is still easily affordable by any new players? By the time a new player generate enough gold, I’m pretty sure the mistfire wolf elite skill is obsolete.

My main point is just suggesting that people who originally purchased the deluxe version could be given some freebies as a reward for their show of support, without having the need of any advertising or promotions.

You got what you paid for.
It’s a promotion. You’ve already paid for it, you’ve been using the goods already.

I don’t think Greedy is a strong word to use in this context. Because now that they’re offering up a $20 value for free to new players, as a perk for buying the game, you think that you’re entitled to free stuff? Because you had to pay at launch? It was your choice to buy it. I paid for the normal version, and it’s not a problem, but by your logic, deluxe purchasers should get ‘free stuff’ because they had to pay and new players get it free, But I paid too… so I should get a free upgrade to the deluxe version as well.

Also, make note of what you ARE getting above normal game purchasers.

- Chalice of Glory
- Tome of Influence
- Golem Banker

Is that seriously, not enough for you?

The advertising and promotions aren’t for your support. And you paid a one off payment for the game, not a recurring game subscription. So the ‘reward for support’ thing, i’m not getting.

It is idiot proof that if it happened, it will be a privilege and not an entitlement. U need to chill, as it is beginning to sound like u are jealous if they actually do reward us with something. =.=

Normal users aside, if u were to ask any deluxe users, they will more or less feel a little disappointed with the promotion. Like I said, it is just an suggestion, so dun have to get so worked up over it.

and I don’t like rytlock mini(I’m running with plushy griffon :P)
wolf is a pretty bad elite(at least from what people say, but it doesn’t fit in at all compared to class elites..)
the rest is one-time consumables. Pff ^^

I’m not upset
As I said, I have just the standard license of the game, that’s all. Many friends have the deluxe version, and aren’t phased by it. Somebody else getting a deluxe version doesn’t alter their game play or anything they do.

At the end of the day though, you have no reason to get anything for free. Your initial post was in regards to a sales promotion where new users get a free upgrade of $20 value. You felt as if you deserved to be reimbursed for having purchased said deluxe version earlier in the year.

As I’ve stated. You have no reason to get anything for free. You’ve not been a victim to a bug that caused you to not have access to the stuff that comes with the Deluxe edition, have you? Arena-Net haven’t removed any of the things you received without warning. You don’t have to pay a continual monthly subscription for it. (None of us do). You didn’t have to pay an obscene amount on top of the regular license, that makes it difficult to acquire. It’s $20 and asking for free stuff because a company is promoting their own product in a way that yes, is very enticing to new players, is a little selfish and greedy, imo.

Though if you can’t see that, then I can’t continue to keep trying to point it out to you.

Honestly, the Digital Deluxe edition doesn’t look worth $20. All you really get that has lasting appeal is the mini and the elite skill. To me, that’s not worth $20.

I understand the OP’s sentiment but its just buisness on Anets side. They (like us) want more players in the game. New boxes bought = more money in the development fund (hopefully). If the CE was actually worth the upgrade Id have already got it myself, but since its kinda a weak CE Im not suprised they are having to give it away frankly.

I’m pretty sure that if one knows what exactly are the extra items and elite skill that the deluxe version has to offer, almost nobody will want to purchase it…lol. $20 ain’t worth it, and that’s what making it feel even more sickening. Raebfle, if u are not feeling upset or jealous abt it, then pls dun make it sound as if u are… lol. Tbh, I’m not exactly sure if some ppl do get my point when i posted this suggestion. Mind you, i mentioned suggestion, not demand, so to quote me as being greedy is really uncalled for. Also, This isn’t just abt me, so to say I’m being selfish doesn’t make any sense either. If I haven’t understood the reason why ANet is doing this promotion, I wouldn’t have mentioned that in my first initial post.
