Greetings Anet, Everyone.

Glimpse of Philippines’ current state:

Most of us are aware of the aftermath of what Super Typhoon Haiyan left in the Philippines. It has been a very devastating experience for my fellow countrymen as roughly 2,000 people are already declared dead, thousands more are missing, and the numbers are still rapidly increasing.

People from East Visayas, Philippines, are currently experiencing great hunger and high risk of external harm as there is a massive shortage of food and shelter. Based from our local news, it would take more than a year to re-install electricity back to most part of East Visayas, what more for the place to fully recuperate?

Suggestion:

It would be extremely great if Anet could possibly consider on providing a Fund Raising Campaign via Gem Store in order for us (those who are willing) to provide help to our fellow men.

I have seen this act for awhile on some Facebook applications (Games) even before and I have been thinking that if these small scale entities could do their part, why not Anet/NCSOFT?

This could be an alternative mean for players to actually extend their help.

How:

Anet could basically introduce items that would be purchased via gems, and all money collected would be donated to Helping Agencies (UN, Philippine Government, etc.).

Looking at it business-wise, it would still be a win-win situation for everyone (minus the extended labor and hassle Anet’s staff would have to undergo upon doing so):

1) We could help the typhoon victims.
2) It would mean a free advertising for Anet (This really is diabolic, but we need to look at it practically)
3) Players who actually like to help, but has no means of helping because it could be a hassle for some to actually pack goods or go to relief centers w/e, or even the fact that some of them just don’t know where to go/what to do.
4) Anet could possibly make some stuff from “List Of Things We Want In Gemstore” post happen, thus resulting to happy players. ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/List-Of-Things-We-Want-In-Gemstore )

Remarks:

I know that this suggestion would seem somehow selfish as some people may tend to argue: “How about people from other countries who are continuously starving and are in danger everyday?”, and that would be a perfectly acceptable argument. I wouldn’t know what to say.

However, everything that has been said is a suggestion. Hopefully the management would take a look and consider.

I actually disagree here.
First off all let me explain I do care and donated money through my national fund. So it’s not an issue for support.
But there are many many good causes. Many years ago the GW(1 and 2) community adopted Pink Day (in LA) as our fundraising activity. For that event there has been asked for such a thing and for Pink Day I totally agree with such a proposal. However it is important to not overask for fundraising, specially in game. People go online not to be begged for money for a (very good) real life cause, but to escape from the real world.

Too many off these fundraisings would in my opinion mean that people would start spending lesser and lesser.

So for Pink Day in LA: Yes, Such a suggestion would be good and I think Anet should have done that the last year allready. For other cause it would mean overkill pretty soon. Besides that. If anet supports this goal as well, then people also expect them to support movember, and world aids day, and the rebuilding of the WTC, and……well you prolly got what I mean.

So as for your suggestion: Not for this goal.

But please find your local national fundraiser and DO support the victums of this Typhoon!! Use your own national fund or go to http://www.icrc.org/eng/donations/?o=420013&cpn=philippines

As a matter of fact, yes, I already did provide monetary & goods support. Basically, the post is just an additional act of what else I could do in spite of being a common citizen.

Also, I do get where you’re coming at. Tendency of people to start spending lesser and lesser would actually hurt the game and people would expect for further “fund raising” acts from Anet. Honestly speaking, I haven’t considered that point. A good point actually.

Still keeping my hopes up though.

No. Donate directly to the charities participating in the relief effort instead. The money will get to where it is needed faster that way.

I disagree with this idea as well. I don’t think Anet should get involved with charities. The Gem Store is meant to help develop the game further, or at least, that is what I assume. There’s also the hassle of trying to get the money to actually arrive at the people who need it, and that involves finding a charity that you think you can trust, and even then it can be quite a hassle.

Honestly, if you want to do something for these victims, organize a fund raising event in GW2 yourself, and get sponsors.

UPDATE:

It seems the government in the Philippines is now keeping all of the money that’s being donated, and not using it to help the victims at all. And there’s your reason right there folks.
