Torches should stand out like beacons in the dark. It is hardly noticeable when day shifts to night. We don’t need to be able to see the same distance in the dark as day and cities should have lots of light points from torches and lanterns
with a settings option
Similar to the personal story, except not instanced. For example every map would have a blue star over an NPC that would signify that that NPC is a part of the Map story line. Doing these steps in the story line explains the history of the map and tells the player more about what’s going on now. Maybe the NPCs in this story line tell the player of rumored hidden or buried ruins. This can link back to community driven events where things happen in a map that change the map forever and push content forward where an underground ruin could be found
Type of faction for each profession that a player can gain a renowned status with by doing missions for their class’s faction and then unlocking unique profession specific gear
The Vigil, Order of Whispers, and the Priory could all give players missions to gain “renowned-ness” with them and unlock more similarly themed gear
this could be put in different areas of Tyria or maps to bring players back to certain maps for materials needed in different recipes. Each type of map specific ore, wood or herb could be used though-out all levels of crafting.
Where appropriate of course. Such as in a snow storm or at the top of a hill
Give utility to the “Home Instance.” This could offer manikins for displaying armor skins you want to keep, and displays for weapons, personalized workstation set to your current 2 active crafts, trophies rewarded for certain achievement feats, a garden with different herbs in it, etc. This could introduce seeds to the game and furniture – possible gem store additions. This, also like the community driven content, could be something that the Player builds through providing wood and stone towards the construction and upgrading of the Players house.
Adding mounts to this game would be awesome but also lame if it wasn’t done in some innovative and new manner. My idea is that a player can capture some select types of animals in the game (with asura technology?) and take them as a companion that stays by their side. This differs from the Rangers pet as it does not have any controls other than attack/defend/passive stances. In addition a Ranger could use this companion as a substitute for their pet and have the additional controls as normal. These companions, with use, grow in size (appropriate for mounting) gain loyalty to the player’s character opening up additional options such as attack/defend stances (assuming it starts only with passive), mounting, speed increase and cosmetic armor. This would all be found under the “companion” tab in the hero panel.
monsters that spawn periodically in random areas of the map and seek out a settlement, or outpost to terrorize would make the game much more living. These monsters would ideally be legendary and require a good sized group to defeat. This idea can tie in with the community driven content as if the settlement is destroyed, the community can work together to build it again.
NPCs that are difficult to get to who will teach a “master skill set” for the specific weapon they master in. The player can learn these sets from the weapon masters only at level 80. This gives players something prestigious to achieve at level 80 that gives a feeling of character progression after level 80 and the look that their character is becoming more skillful.
If you like these ideas give it a +1. Or be more specific and list the ideas you do like and the ones you don’t. Give other suggestions. Give feedback, I love to hear it.

I’ll pass on inspect. never liked it never will .
More armor models and Profession armors i agree with( including back piece ) . I would even suggest that Profession based armors be spread out at vendors across the world and depending on where the vendor is it would have a different look .So for example Krytan armors for professions would look different than say a vendor located in the Shiverpeaks
More craftable armors? Agreed, I would change the craftable exotic for each level to a different skin since right now it seems to all be the same
Inspect is an infinitely useful tool to someone trying to learn the game, as well as skin collectors. How many times I see someone looking awesome but afk T__T

Or you could have a build ping that would show you something similar to the sPvP skill preview thingy. I would like build pings a lot more.
