I agree that more weapons is better than more professions. More professions just means new boxes to be locked into. More weapons means new ways to express one’s profession. Besides a new profession means a new character, while a new weapon means new ways to enjoy one’s existing character(s). I would love a way to learn new utility skills that could be substituted for the basic skills we start with to make unique builds like we could in GW1.

I will rellay LOVE a class which the same weapon could use magical and physical attacks, something like Guardian maces, with his symbol, but more like… I don’t know, an elementalist or a necromancer

I guess it does stand out a bit that of the professions in Guild Wars 1, there are three that have no equivalents.

Assassin became Rogue and Paragon became Guardian, but there is no equivalent for the Monk, Ritualist or Dervish. Although the Engineer may be meant to be the effective replacement of the Ritualist.

I feel like there is a certain “the gods have happened us” theme running through Guild Wars 2 which explains the removal of Monks and Dervishes. The advancing steam punk culture explains the Ritualist being turned from a magical class to a technology one. It also helps differentiate it better from Mesmers, Elementalists and Necromancers.

Maybe they will release the new versions of the Monk and Dervish in a future expansion set.

This could be something for Arena-Net to consider, but at the moment the game is freshly realeased & has various other complications.

With the way the weapon systems work. there really isn’t a reason to add new professions. From here on they can pretty much create new professions just by adding new weapons.

For example already, playing a gaurdian with a staff is pretty much a different profession than playing gaurdian with a hammer or sword and torch.

NO ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONS!
Hope that a-net learned from GW what a mess it did when new classes were added… more weapons, sure, more races, also ok, full out professions, NO!

There will no doubt be new professions, like the ones you mentioned. These will definitely come in future expansions but no time soon. New races though? I don’t think that would happen just because of the complexity of it all. I can see old professions making a debut in GW2 but not until we get new maps like Elona and Cantha (which would not be coming anytime soon).

I see new races more likely than new professions. They have put in a lot of hints in game that suggest that the Tengu will become playable.

Tengu are getting an Asura Gate, The only reason they haven’t joined in the fight against the dragons is because they are observing the other races and determining who best to align with and who is an enemy, the dominion of winds currently occupies an area large enough for 1-15 area (if not larger) and a racial city.

Though I could see the tengu introducing a new class into the mix.

I kinda don’t like the current way they made professions. Alot of them are multiple types of potential “classes” combined into one like when they gave mesmer greatsword and elementalists daggers, instead they could of made a “battle Mage” proffesion seperate of that. (elementalists daggers doesn’t make sense either ,they are powerful mages not upfront melee)
A few more professions would be nice but mainly just new weapon skills for the current ones. Either different looks or different mechanics (distance, behind or side, Current Hp%, currently knockdown next move will , currently under [condition] affect next move will _, charging a skill, bouncing, facing you, etc).

I hope they will add more classes, especially the ritualist. New classes make me start new alts, new races have zero effect on me. I’ve never understood the obsession of some who want to play as Tengu, a big chicken, zero interest on my side.

I do think that new classes will come along new races with an expension pack. There are a lot of place on the world map for free content updates and I can totally see the Tengu being playable in a Cantha expansion (along with new classes, weapons, etc.)

There is so must potential from the lore of GW that has not been exploited yet and I just can’t wait to see more (And I’m only half-way in this one

I do not agree with new professions simply because of how the weapon system works. All they need to do is add more weapons and your character’s play style will change.

Perky – 80 Norn Guardian
Soapie – 80 Human Ranger

Why would you think this? Races are easy to incorporate! Just need to create the model (including animation and armor set models, the last takes the longest), set the starting location for the race and maybe program in some storyline missions for the race using elements already in the game. Oh, and a few high-level subpar skills for the race. It is only if you want the new race to come along with a city and low-level zones that things become complicated. Oh, and you might want to add a few NPCs of that race around the world using your new player model— or replace the enemy ones in the game with your new PC model one.

New profession involves creating a large number of new skills (unless they mimic other skills in the game) and balancing them against the other professions in the game. Getting the balance right is what takes all the real work.

Well, ANet has had the kinda habit to release 2 or so new professions every expansion. I hope they keep that up. New professions = more exiting. New races? I mean, I’d love to play a skritt. But its not something I’d start a new character for… okey, I might start a new character to play skritt, but still. I’d prefer to play a new profession instead of just getting 2-3 new interesting utility skills.

I wish they would make a rit class, but it is unlikely, because any class technically could do anything with different weapons. Tengu will be playable, because to the Left of lions arch, there is a foggy area that is unexplorable atm and tengu guarding a gate to their city.

While, I get where some people are coming from when they say “Why add new professions?”, but I don’t agree. It’s not just about skill abilities, stats, and roles. It’s also about overall “Feel” for a class. The different profession themes, resources, colors of your very UI, particle effects, etc. I think that’s what most people are chasing when they say they want a new class and I agree. I like the diversity of many professional archetypes and a fresh new stream, as long as they keep them balanced.

New class for my suggestion Bloodthirster. Large health pool medium armor, skills takes your health on activation. Increases attack the more health is missing. Like attack increase by 50% is health reaches 50%. Kinda op but would be fun

They have added bits and pieces of classes that arent in the game into ones that are so it’s not so easy to say yeah I want this class back as it would need to change to not be redundant.

The main thing I have to add to this discussion though is that I would LOVE to be able to use a scythe again. Don’t care how or why or any other specifics, I just want it.

Most wanted in game additions: Beastiary, readable books

Also, rangers with staffs, scepters and foci please.

If they are going to add another race I think the best candidate would be those water people you see towards the end of the story line can’t remember their names, but they remind me of the Quarians from Mass Effect. They are humanoidlike and its different from anything existing in the game thus far. I agree they should not add professions but instead add weapons such as fists or a whip or something of that nature. Water combat has the least to it at this point so has the most room to expand. They only have three weapons and water fighting is extremely limited. So if they are going to expand in any direction I think that would be the way to go.

The Tengu could be a pretty cool playable race! Or the Kodan, but I don’t see a whole lot of customization options available for them, so maybe not. I think they should add a new heavy armor wearing class if they do add a new class, though. And the should DEFINITELY add 2h axes and maybe a pike or something like that that is distinguished from the aquatic spear.

Well in regards to professions…. I’d love to see a battle mage (with decent armor/hitpnts)…. in every fantasy game I’ve played I’ve always had a hybrid warrior/mage type of character (equally good at either melee or all out destructive magical spells), very flexible and very fun to play!

The current wizard class I’m sorry to say I found very dissapointing, I tend to notice them going down alot more often during combat then other class’s (especially at legendary champion events….). Just a passive observation.

I’d love to see the Skritt as a playable race, they’d be fun to play, plus the sounds/sayings they make are hilarious “you smell…. sniff sniff, different!” lol. The personal storyline quests would be quite interesting I’m sure (especially early on). The developers wouldnt have to do alot to implement them (as there animations are mostly already there).
