GEM STORE item that will un-soulbind
If it’s to unbind a soulbound item for one use, I’d like to see this implemented especially with rare and exotic gear my main outgrows. I’d be willing to pay extra to pass them on to alts who could use them.
IMO kinda ridiculous that we even have to beg for this. First off its a gem store item so why not. Secondly its not really fair they they NERF the shortbow to the point where main hand axe does more DPS (ranger) after I spent FORTY gold on a corrupted one that now just gathers dust.
Is there another thread about this? Can anyone recall one way or anything hearing a dev’s response about this kind of thing? Is anyone against this?
Soulbound items are a necessary mechanic. Granted, a lot of items should be account bound instead. But that’s a design flaw.

I don´t think you know what DPS is.
DPS is DAMAGE PER SECOND not the raw damage. It´s the sum of all damage in some period of time divided by the time you measured this damage in seconds. Not the damage you do in ONE attack.
So if you have a fast weapon (high ASPD, attack speed) with an low damage per attack you can do much more DPS than an weapon with more damage but low ASPD.
The DPS of the AXE and the shortbow is almost the same most time (there is an RNG applied to the damage) even with the axe doing more damage, his low ASPD drops the DPS.
And you just want this because you done an error most common to “high” demand players (aka F2P Players) they just buy everything they think is the best then they regret their decision because some misunderstanding. An advice, learn craft arts and try with crafted itens instead of buy everything. Will be much better for you.

Good idea in a way. I like the Account Binding just for the extra added security.
However, getting an upgrade for a weapon, say you spent about a week of time and around 30 gold to get it. Now, spending about 100 gold and a few weeks on your next. What happens to the first weapon?
I suppose that’s what keeps the market green and deflate the inflation as much as possible. However, maybe a bit more than just 500 gems would seem more suitable. It would need to be a necessary and worthy choice. Not something spontaneous.
1) For the extra safety precaution (who’s going to have $100’s in gems stored on their account? Well, who knows…)
2) To keep the option there, but not so that it’s used for every piece of equipment that becomes obsolete and thus, will fill up the TP in lower level equips.
Nice idea, but… Soulbound items are there to create extra gold sinks, because you have to spend more money gearing up your alts. Besides, if the item is only worth a few gold, you’d be better off spending those 500 gems on gold, you’d end up with more money that way (what with current exchaneg rate). But if it was to unbind an expensive item, then you’d be reducing the effectiveness of the gold sink. So I cannot see Anet implementing this.
My pesonnal opinion is that “Soulbinding” should be limited to the starter equipment each character gets upon character creation.
And while it’s annoying, “Account Bound” items, in my opinion, should be limited to items purchased with gems.
The fact that items obtained from the “personal story” quests are usually several levels lower than the character, because those quests are impossible to complete when done at, or below their noted level, it’s my opinion that they should not be bound at all.
Of course, the fact that there are several items awarded which can’t be purchased on the trading post seems to indicate that the intention is that they should actually be valuable?
So, why not make them account bound instead of soulbound?
Cultural items are another class which, in my opinion, should be account bound. While it may be cool looking at first, some become annoying to look at, on a particular character, but would look great on another.
I.E.: I have two Norn’s, a thin Thief, and a muscular Ranger, the cultural armor looks awful on the Ranger, but looks awesome on the Thief.
My Norn Ranger and Asura Mesmer both use a Greatsword. After a few transmutations, the cultural greatsword looked ridiculus on the Norn, but it looks great on the Asuran.
I can understand that part of the reason for soulbinding is to have a gold sink. However, for those of us who don’t grind crafting, dungeons, or other high sources of income, the binding of items, especially the soulbinding of items, is detrimental.
(I’ve never had more than 12 gold at a time in the 4 months that the game has been out.)
Barring the removal of soulbinding from the game, having a relatively cheap item to change soulbinding to account binding in the Gem Store would be a tremendous aid to us poor folks.
