I was an avid Guild Wars 1 player, here are a few things that you could add from Guild Wars 1 that would greatly improve upon the game. I have yet to see many of these mention.

1. Elite and special skills only attainable from monsters! Remember you had to use signet of capture? Lets bring that back!

How to do it: First allow the player to purchase an “soul catcher” from myanie for skill points. Then add special skills to various bosses through out the game. This will give players all the more reason to go exploring and actually kill those champion mobs. Ex- Treasure hunter in one of the Norn starting areas. This guy spawned a chest, was hidden, and hardly anybody killed him! When you kill the boss, the soul catcher will automatically capture it’s soul. I know what you’re going to say, what about PvPers? For spvp, auto unlock to keep balance.

Benefits: Give players a reason to explore the map besides legendaries. Easy way to add skills into the game while extending the average playtime a player may spend in game. You can also tie this in with events. How? Cosmetic skills that do something special. Maybe if you used a soul catcher on the last part of the event you get a special skill. When you do it, it does a special animation. Something dealing with the karka of course. It has no pvp advantage or playstyle and is pureley cosmetic. This makes it so that in 1 or 2 years and you see a player use that skill, you know he has was there on the lost shores opening.

2. One time chest. Throw in some chest that you can only open once and they scale with gear. Make its o that when you go to open it, a warning comes up saying you can only open it once per character. I was so excited to go out and find all the hidden chest in guild wars 1 after getting to level 20, and the rewards were always beneficial. I could always use them or sell them for a good amount of coin.

3. Guild Capes! Guild armor and the way you handle emblems was boring in GW2. I would love to see a comeback of capes. I know there are backpacks, but those sometimes look awkward on people. Maybe offer a skin change that is a cape instead. Give the magic users something that kinda fits their classes (the books help this, so thank you for those).

Those are 3 things i wouldn’t mind seeing make it back into the game.

I kinda miss having to go to the kitten end of the world to capture some Elite skill, yeah… I’d personally like to see this return.

I hated this eliteskill hunting. I did enjoy GW1 but i hated that part.

You had to decide wich skill you want, then you had to look up which mob has it, get that absorb skill (forgot the name) and travel to the edge of the world to get that skill.

If you think about it it doesnt even make much sence: Absorbing a ability with a item?

No I wouldnt like that.

I quite like all of those ideas – #2 is basically already implemented now as much as it was in GW. I can’t remember what the 1-time chests in GW1 were (refresh my memory, if you could). I remember there were some random chests hidden around Elona, but those refreshed after X-amount of time, and you could open them again, so they were basically Splendid Chests.

I would really like to be able to cap boss skills. Right now, the level of customization on the 2nd half of the bar is really lacking, and this could make builds more interesting to work with. Plus it would give people all the more reasons to go after boss events, like you said; I was on one of the Norn maps yesterday, and the whole thing was covered with champions, with everyone running around them, which forced me to run around a lot of them too, since I can’t solo every single one.

Minor detail, but I wish the character select screen was more like GW1 where your characters were displayed in scale to one another and where you could rotate the camera around them. It’s the only place where I can see how they look all next to one another, but the size differences are not represented here. It would also be nice to be able to → key your way thru characters instead of having to mouse-click on them.

Myself I’d love to see the 100’s of skills we had per profession and not have our 1-5 skills locked to a weapon. I loved coming up with new and original builds and not being pigeon-holed into 3-4 builds because of weapon choice.
