Gated Content
Gated content only works if that content is rewarding in some form. Even if you could do dungeons only once a day right now in GW2, not many would do them simply because the rewards are so distant, they don’t seem worth it. You would feel like you’re getting nothing for doing that daily dungeon.
Gating works in WoW because raids are actually quite rewarding to the players. A player can enter a raid expecting to get a piece of gear, and at the very least currency that’ll help them obtain other pieces of gear outside the dungeon. The difference is you can raid once or twice and get gear, while in GW2 you have to do the dungeon 8 times to get a piece, and even then it’s only cosmetics.
Gated content only works with a carrot at the end. And ArenaNet is of the stance that people will do the same dungeon 80 times because it’s “fun” doing so; not for the carrot.

Agreed, Saga. The problem with GW2’s dungeons is not gating. The problem with GW2’s dungeons is that they’re not very good. And before anyone comes for my throat, I love the game. I hate the dungeons.
Just no wow any more please, not here, not again. I’m already fed up by noticing how much my charr in heavy armour looks like an ork or a tauren, and it looks terrible and dement indeed.
Gating content is made to artificially lengthen the time it takes to do things. Of course when you’re a company who wants to keep people suscribed with little work, that’s one way to keep them hooked.

First, it was ment to be sarcastic.
Second, I dont need an “incentive” to play the game… I play because I like playing the game… I need inventives to do things I dont like doing. I enjoy running the dungeons every now and then… eventually I might get the set from that dungeon.
Hey now, My tauren deathknight was badkitten looking.
Anyway, we don’t need gating, there’s nothing to gate.

Exactly. There is nothing to gate.
WoW gates content as its a sub based game, you feel you have to log on every day, and so build up a habit to play the game.
GW2 is not sub based, right now people are carrying over sub based mentalities to the game, in time people will realise there is no rush, there is not compulsion to churn through content as fast as possible. There is no requirement to run all content you can as fast as you can.
So no, gating is not needed. People can farm 24/7 if they want. so what? if thats what they want to do.
