Gem Prices
If I’m recalling correctly the reason they did this is so that players didn’t feel they had to buy the largest quantity to get the best deal. So by having a fixed ratio of gems per dollar people only need to buy as many gems as they need to make their current purchase desires. They could offer sales one in awhile though and give bonus gems for those seeking more for less.
it’s showing signs of improvement, but my concern is with the gem-to-gold-to-gem ratio.
gems are just too cheap with in-game money. i look at 800 gems and think “10 dollars. i could get another game with that much money”. then i look and 800 gems is 5g, because the price is currently way higher than normal.
5g is not a lot. it may seem like a lot early on, but it’s not a lot. as a result, it feels like gems are overpriced.
The gem exchange rate is likely to keep rising. As long as players continue to not think twice about how much gold they spend on gems regardless of how many they get. I personally feel that even at 1g for 100 gems would still be a decent value. But I don’t think we will see the price hit the equilibrium range until most gem sellers feel the amount of gold they get for their gems is worth the exchange. And who really know what that rate might be. We know the RMTs will always sell more for less than the gem exchange rate otherwise they wouldn’t get any business. We can only hope that the exchange rate goes high enough to minimize the RMTs which in turn means less attempts at botting etc etc.
yeah i think once it reaches 1g per 100 gems, then i’ll stop converting my gold into gems :P
and RMTs seem to be dying down rather fast. the mail spamming is not nearly as bad as it used to be on my server, that’s for sure.
I think the exchange rate should be 100 gems per gold since some people would easily spend $100 to get their icy runestone criterion out of the way. Crafting just isn’t profitable unless you’re lucky with making exotics in the forge.
