Give us the software developers kit Arenanet. There’s a whole community of people who would be ready, willing and able to build mods to improve the quality of life in game for all players. There is zero reason not to do this. I’d even be willing to pay for an SDK and submit mods to anet for consideration if that’s what it took.

I couldn’t link it to you, but pretty sure somewhere along the line ANet said they’re not allowing mods/add-ons, simply because they want people to play GW2, not Add-On Manager.

Expect that the community wants many different things.
You’d probably have to quadruple server sizes to get everything you want into the game.

There is totally a reason not to do this:

  • Gamers as a community only know how to scream for what they want and ignore what they need
  • It would probably lead to a game with absolutely no revenue value
“Bleeding, Poison, Confusion, Torment, they all look delightful on you.”

I think somewhere one of the ArenaNet people said that player created missions may be coming down the pipe. I think that would be the closest we would see.

I’m thinking more along the lines of coding Target of Target, Weapon swap mods (out of combat, for when you want to bring a different weapon to a specific fight without fumbling through your bags of crap) – basic quality of life things that should be in every MMO (but for some reason, are not in this).

You could code a mod that helps you find POI’s (that were previously found on other characters), for example. This game is not conducive for “whack-a-mole” mods, simply due to the way that the combat/class system is built, so saying GW2 would turn into one is just silly.

At a minimum, a requirement of approval via ANET would solve ANY issue regarding their vision of the game and how a particular MOD would effect it. That nullifies every argument against this idea outright. I would be fine with something like that (think the way Apple handles user made apps that they put up on the store, etc).
