I’ve just come from an exploratory mission in Lornar’s Pass (to see if any Molten Forces were still around) and having reached a stone bridge guarded by pirates at the end of the large lake in that area could not fail to notice that the entire structure is GLOWING a dazzling whitish color. Now, I’ve noticed this particular factor in other GW2 elements, ice, the bottom of buildings and outhouses, some trees … what is the point of that glowing effect ArenaNET staff? It only works to RUIN the visual impact of the game and frankly I found it extremely annoying. It is now effecting my game play guys – so what exactly is the point of that glow? I initially thought that it might have something to do with drawing the eye to the object so the player might give it some attention but then I revised that consideration when I realized that items which had no practical purpose other than as ‘dressing’ were also glowing and often made it impossible to enjoy the environment. Does anyone know what this is all about and can ArenaNET do something to put a stop to it?

Could you provide a screenshot please? I’m not sure if I understand what you are referring to. Might be a grafics glitch? What are your grafics settings?

I’ll get back to you on that soon Meluna.1764 as I have to go do real world stuff. But will sort out a screen capture of the issue and post it here once I work out how. Thanks for the reply.

This sounds like it might be an unintended graphic problem. It might be an issue with the post process effects. It could be a compatibility issue with your drivers. It could also be a bug, if the bridge can be destroyed and rebuild, and it has an effect for that which didn’t switch off correctly. A screenshot would be very helpful.

I’ve seen this happen, the brightness of the bridge is off the charts for some reason. I’d say it’s a bug with certainty. Could be compatibility issue, too, but seeing as that’s the only time I’ve ever encountered that, I doubt it.

As requested this is a screen capture of the issue I mentioned earlier (one-half my native screen resolution). Nothing has been changed in regards to my graphics settings since the game was installed last year and nothing seems to be out of place yet this keeps happening. Unfortunately you cannot see it here but that bridge is so bright it is like staring into the sun.

And here is an additional shot, just taken in Gendarran Fields (immediately to the north of Lion’s Arch) and another taken in Queensdale. In the first image you can clearly see the base of these huts glowing. The glow seems to come and go, but it is predominately ‘on’ when approaching them or looking at them. Even when they are not centered in the image (not targeted) they seem to be glowing. The other image is of hay bales which can be set on fire during an event lending some credibility to the idea that these items are post-effect glitches.

Yes that appears to be a graphic glitch.

I would say run a repair on your client and post these screenshots in bugs/support if continues

A repair was run, there is nothing untoward about the graphics settngs (double checked) and it yet happens. I’ve considered the possibility of a graphics driver issue and upgraded and still … well you guessed the rest. I suspect it is indeed time to report it.

(20 hours later) The problem persists and it definitely seems to be a post-process effect related to items which can be destroyed/rebuilt or affected by environmental changes. I also noticed that when I run Beepa FRAPS (I do this routinely to screen capture video and screen images on demand) in video record mode the glowing effect does not appear, yet when I do not record the effect does appear. I honestly do not know how to qualify that one, but it certainly interesting nevertheless.

Try turning off your post-processing and see if that fixes it. Post-processing tends to make some things brighter in-game.

Could be a bug related to the slight highlight effect you get when mousing over an object. Instead ob subtly lighting up behind daid object, the highlight goes full power on top? I would advice you to ask in the technical support forum or better send a ticket with the screenies and system test file. The guys there were very helpful to me. Usually takes a day max for them to answer.

Thank you Meluna.1764, I’ll do that. As strange as it sounds and in light of the fact that I cannot video record the effect to demonstrate it I’m wondering now if it may have something to do with how my hardware is displaying. If I switch on video recording the effect ceases to appear, but the moment I turn it off, BLING it’s back.

No offense, but the search button can really help at times..

“Tyrilha.3087 –
It’s a Nvidia driver issue.
It appears with 310.xx branch and the only way I have found to fix it fully atm is to revert back to 306.97.
(You can also try to put shaders slider on medium, but you loose wat too much and it’s not a proper 100% fix-it-all)
From the 310.90 thread it seems those don’t fix the problem either.”

So,try to install new gpu drivers. I’d suggest to get 314.22,since 320.00 was kinda buggy, and i haven’t tried out 320.14 yet tbh.
314.22 works fine for guild wars.

Good, save for that I don’t use Nvidia drivers, and I’ve experienced this issue.

No offense taken Caedmon.6798 (why would I take offense? You assume that I made the same decisions as you did in searching, which clearly I did not, so my being offended is illogical. Fascinating.) This business with the drivers had occurred to me and Nvidia is notorious at times. I hate changing drivers as they often make issues worse. In one instance recently it caused one game which used to play perfectly fine to cease displaying altogether which made debugging very difficult. Thanks for the suggestion – and in posting it you have potentially assisted other residents as well.

If you run in borderless window mode, this goes away.
