Gold Sinks...way too many!!!
Way points should be free. No sense giving coin to a floating rock.
There are plenty of ways to make money in game. Harvest every, every single node you see, and sell off the excess materials. Those little bags from certain mobs like small trinket bags, icy bags or whatever bags. Stock them up and sell them. A few players tend to want them. I don’t know why exactly. Finish up requests and limit your spending to karma alone. And don’t forget exploring every nook and cranny in each map for loot, Especially jump puzzles.
70c is cheap for waypoints, I was standing not 30 feet away from one and it was 1s16c! I’m going to say keep it as it is, simply because the jumping across the map like we had on GW1 did feel a little immersion breaking.
Pro-tip: If you want to get back to LA for free, queue Borderlands and kill time until you get there and then bust through their asura gate.

Go to the Mists? :P
Can you please make it so it’s free to teleport to a city if you are in a city? It would save so much time. Right now I have to… find the asura gate… 1 minute loading screen… walk to another asura gate… 1 minute loading screen…
Total time spent traveling: about 5 minutes.
Either way it would be free, but it would reduce bandwidth on servers (loading + teleporting requests; loading players and all that stuff)

Even better!
Make waypoints cost karma.
I have more karma than I know what to do with and the complete opposite when it comes to gold.
costs of teleporting should be by distance not level zone or w/e scale they have implemented atm. Used to cost few c to teleport around Hoelburk or w/e its called but in lvl 60+ zones its like almost 2s to teleport 50 ft away.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
they schould give waypoints a single price no matter how far you travel with them.

I agree that something does need to be done with the cost of waypoints. My personal story quests are getting really expensive and it’s almost not worth it to go back and play with my lower level and beginner friends. I love simply walking through the world, but that can be incredibly time consuming for a quick stop in a certain area.
Way points need not be free, but slightly less expensive would be nice. Or, as I mentioned in the suggestions thread, costs should at least be dependant on the zone, not your level, to make it easier to reclaum travel costs.
And, yeah, making them somewhat lower would indeed be nice.
So far (lvl 67) I’m completely fine wit repair costs though (hardly ever dying enough to make it expensive, and then mostly from jumping off cliffs and the like) – but then, I’m not doing dungeons much.
The waypoint cost is fine. The most expensive cost is less then 5 silver and that is from Cursed Shores to Frostgorge Sound. You make 5 silver in less then 10 minutes by just killing mobs not counting any events. 1 silver for teleporting around the same map is fine for lv 80.
I don’t want to have to pay to get to a waypoint every time I die. What’s the point of repair costs, then? That’s supposed to be the gold sink for dying, now there’s another one.
The gold sinks are good, I don’t want to horde money and have nothing to spend it on.
Gold is actualy worth something and will not loose it’s worth due to inflation like in WoW, where most people have thousands of gold.
LoL i have 80 lvl 3 days and i have 40golds from mystic forge and from selling exotic weapons :P 2s waypoint cost is nothing…
I’m level 71, I hardly die, but if I do I spend 1s20c or something to revive at the nearest waypoint and then another ~2s to repair my stuff. If I had the kind of money some of you seem to be having I’d say “okay, no biggie”. 3s is not a lot money, but it is enough to be felt. (I have maybe 1 gold… and I didn’t even buy stuff. Just gathering tools and dungeon / WvW repair costs)
It also makes it a tedious endeavor to go to other zones and play with friends or help them with a dungeon and then walk back to where I was before (even using the Heart of the Mists shortcut).
I love immersion and I’m usually the one supporting those threads asking for more immersion, but I REALLY miss the instant travel like we had in GW1. That offered so much freedom of choice of what to do and where to go.
Travel in GW2 need not be unlimited or free… it can cost a little or cost could be tied to the level of the region… but the waypoint to revive should be free.
Ehm…
Even stupid waypoint to instance, and then back to the city take more then 5s. Then You add cash for repair, and You realize that You paid more then You got from completing it…
Waypoints are costly, but only in low level areas, as they increase value with your level.
They should be free to any city (they are already if you travel to PvP, then to Lion’s Arch, and then use the portals), and cost depending on the shortest route, considering all Asura gates.
For example, traveling from Metrica Province to Ebonhawke should cost as much as traveling to Rata Sum, as from Rata sum you can to go Lion’s Arch, then Divinity Reach, then Ebonhawke.
Also, withing an area, they should cost based on the maximum level you can have in that area, not your own level. So if you are in a level 1-15 area, for any waypoint inside that that you’ll be level 15 max.
I don’t think that waypoints costs are that terrible but I do have suggestions that might be well balanced
- WP to a major city should be free (mentioned many times already)
- Once you complete an area you’ll get a discount on the WP (this suggestion came from guru)
The first one is obvious to every player who does the Mists → LA → Asura Gate → Desired City rotation just to save about 1s to 1.5s
The second one encourages you to complete the area you’re in and still maintaining the gold sink
Another idea:
Deacrease WP cost by 50% when you fully discovered the zone.
My idea is: No cost for travelling around map like in Guild Wars 1 where it was completely free.

In general, a really bad idea…preventing inflation will be the problem.
cutting the cost for a completed area is a great idea i agree, at the moment going back to zones i’ve completed to help people is really costly and it’s a shame. would be a good way to balance fighting inflation + rewarding players for their work
they said teleporting would be cheap, but it’s only true if you don’t level.
i hope mudflation come quickly because as of now the teleporting costs are hard to bare.
Totally disagree on waypoints being cheaper/free. At first I thought they would wreck the immersion of the world by allowing you to zoom around the map and therefor make the world feel like a lobby based game where you just pick the area you want to play and zoom around. But as I played further, I realized that you scaled the cost according to our level, which I think is a good solution. I use waypoints when it’s really important to me, but otherwise I just run and have a better chance of stumbling across an event, often resulting in having a lot of “accidental” fun.
I hope the current system remains the same.
Also as others have said, there’s always the option to open your character panel, transport to the Mists (for free), and from there to Lion’s Arch (where all the portals are).
Teleporting costs over 2 silver per trip easily on lvl 80, but it’s so easy to deal with these goldsinks that you realistically should have no problem if you just bother selling stuff to vendors and auction, instead of salvaging everything and hoarding them to your bank.
You expect to get rich by not selling anything? Well, you kinda should have seen that one coming.
Make waypoints cost karma.
I have more karma than I know what to do with and the complete opposite when it comes to gold.
Likes this idea!!

Having too much gold sink is better than having too little. I want the economy in this game to thrive and you can’t have that when everyone can afford everything.
I agree with you on teleporting 100%. The cost gets prohibitive when you want to teleport around and you wind up running areas instead. It should be way cheaper.
I agree that the waypoint cost is too much. It needs to be cut in half. Like others have said, you already have to pay to repair your armor. ALso, it’s not as if the waypoint is right next to where you died most of the time: there’s still a run back to the fight… so that is penalty enough! I’ve just spent the last 10 minutes (yeah, no joke) downed and NO ONE will revive me and i dont have enough money to get to a wp because i just spent it all on crafting. heh. I had been working on jewelry at an outpost that came under attack, and now im gonna be laying there until the end of time because waypoints cost too much… there’s no way i should have to pay over a silver to travel 50 feet. Either cut the waypoint cost or make another way for people to revive that is free but somehow inconvenient (so there is still penalty), like extra armor damage or something.
I agree with the OP the cost of the waypoint is way too expensive, in my opinion the waypoint cost shouldn’t be tied to the player level. yesterday after reaching level 70 i wanted to help a low level friend that was in a bit of trouble therefore i didn’t had the time to do the long run of waypoint to the closest city teleport to lions arch then teleport to another close city. traveling cost reached 10 silver in order to reach all the mission he needed help for, the funny think was in level 69 i had to pay almost 50%.
not everyone spend their time in the mystic forge and auction house, some love to explore. i feel that this system punish me for that.
Quae: even if the waypoint is 1 meter from where you died you will have to pay at least 1.35 silver to reach it.

Have to agree with this. After an 80 friend told a low level player they couldn’t help because it would cost too much to travel there and back I had to come to the forums and see what others were thinking.
There are a couple of things that I would like to see as the game starts to thin out a bit from the initial player rush
.
1. Cheaper travel so we can get around and play without thinking too hard about it. As it is now, it just depletes my money and it’s not fun at all.
2. Some sort of notification system so we can portal to events that are happening now. We need big crowds at these things and when there are not enough people it’s not going to be fun anymore.
Somebody had a brilliant suggestion to make travel to a zone free if you’ve unlocked the whole thing. That would put a new spin on things and make unlocking everything both profitable and fun.
Cheers.
+1 no way of really making money in this game other then dungeons and salvage rares for ectos it’s a joke to try and make money with crafting make 10-30silver profit an item on top of that all the items in the game are way to easy to get items 100 times more supply then demand
