Gold spam with a twist
Anet Community staff have said that accepting attachments from goldspammers is fine so long as you report them and delete the mail afterwards. Think of it as a bounty.
GW2 exists in a completely closed environment. Accounts generating gold spam should be disconnected and frozen immediately, I cannot imagine any reason that Anet cannot monitor email traffic and respond accordingly.
I’ve been getting daily gold spam email, sometimes several per day, on all of my characters. This is obviously not new, although I hope something will be done about it soon. However, one such email came with 1 copper attached. I do not want to take the copper to avoid being accused of utilizing gold spammers. On the other hand, because there is an attachment, I am not able to delete it.
Suggestions:
1. Anet, please let us delete this junk.
2. Please give us the option to disable ingame email except from NPC’s and those who we add to our friends list.
I like your idea; however, I would amend it a little to this:
A filter on the mail system that would prohibit users from sending you mail unless that person belongs in a checked category. The checked categories being:
[] Guilds
[] Friends
[] NPC’s
[] Everyone
The guilds portion is a huge benefit for guild members who wish to help other guild mates by giving them gear, items, minis, and other content. As a person in a couple of guilds I have no desire to add 200+ people to my friends list to do trades.
Friends is just a logical option.
NPC’s should probably be made a hard-scripted to prevent rage threads for not receiving anything.
Everyone would be an option that once checked would display a warning box stating that you are allowing everyone to contact you even those with malicious intent.
To prevent false complaints and bug reports, If a person sends an item to a person who is not in their Guild, Friends List or an NPC; would receive an error message from the post master stating: “Your message could not be delivered at this time, please talk to the individual to have their settings adjusted If you wish to communicate with them.”
