Q:
Grace period for daily achievements?
I completely agree with what you’re saying! I get home around 4pm EST from work and my wife is home about the same time, sometimes sooner. I really only have about 2-3 hours to play and I try stuffing that in before 7 JUST for the daily quests. I’m a very casual player, and just about anyone who is in my guild will agree lol. Having the update at midnight local time would be great however considering it’s a server based reset it would be difficult unless you made the server it’s self time zone based.
I see you’re in a similar situation as I am.
You suggest an 1-2 hour grace period, I suggest no reset at all for those with any progress towards their dailies.
Players have less control over what hour of the day they can play the game. They shouldn’t be penalized for playing around the reset period.
do you just stop playing at 7pm? Soon as they reset start working on them. Get ahead of the curve instead of waiting last minute to do them.

yeah, pretty close to 7pm… I have a family to tend to and as I said before… Very casual player. Yeah I put my efforts in but I don’t like feeling rushed. I do that enough at work trying to fix State Dump Trucks so they can go plow snow and people aren’t getting stuck so much x.x the point trying to be made really is setting the reset time on a more convenient note for everyone. base it on a timezone and set it to the least active time. 7pm is hardly innactive O.o
the grace period should be a couple of days honestly; heck let them rack up for a week, then reset.

I believe this is the best solution right here. Daily resets at 7pm should reset counters for anyone with 100% completion of the day before. However, progress should not be reset. This would permit players to take as long as they need to complete the ‘dailies’ quest.
Rather than looking at it as ‘you need to complete these within a day’ – Anet should have established the rule to be ‘you may complete these as often as once per day’. The logic has an oh-so-slight, but oh-so-important difference.
If players could complete the ‘daily’ over the course of a year, and this is their play speed – at least they could feel like they’re progressing, rather than have their accomplishments WIPED OUT at some arbitrary position of the earth on its rotational axis.
Wow… So I’m EST. I usually get home around 5:30. You know what I figured out? There is an hour and a half before roll over that I can work with OR I can get it done after 7.
It’s very very simple. Doing Dailies or not doing Dailies is a choice you make. If you are prioratizing other things instead then that is not ANet’s problem. You either care enough to get it done in the time you have, or you do not. Since it happens at the exact same time every single day it is something that you can easily schedule your other commitments around, if necessary.
All of that aside, yes, it should reset Midnight local time. There should not be leeway, however, because that’s silly.

I would like to express my frustration with the time of server reset. It is my understanding that all servers reset at the same time, regardless of their location on the planet. I think this is an inconvenience to many time zones that have the reset occurring right in the middle of play time. Already a short month, I have been working very hard on the monthly achievement, including the ridiculous 500 salvages. With the obscene upscaling of the lvl 35 dungeon Ascalonian Catacombs I was not able to complete a run I was on last night. Now, the server will be resetting at 7pm in my time zone and turning to March, while users in my area are still living the month of February. I realize that we got the time buffer in January that we are losing now, but this is incredibly inconvenient, compounded by having to deal with harder dungeons with only a few days left in the month to adapt. I am once again left frustrated with a game I really want to love. It took me months to get back into the game after the awful runaround my husband was given for a game error we were eventually told wouldn’t ever be fixed for him. He was stuck with the change to his account that was the game’s error, and he wasn’t compensated for a broken product. This is yet another discouraging blow of this game to my moral for it.
