I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that there were great expectation for Guild Wars 2. There was a lot of build up, a lot of teases, a lot of waiting, and a lot of effort put into it. In spite of all this I feel that there is something missing preventing it from being a great game. Maybe its the countless bots, maybe its the skills becoming stagnate, maybe its the lack of having a complete story. Now I’m not saying it’s a terrible game because its not but, it’s not a great game either. The original release of Guild Wars 1 some say the story was too long, I say it was fantastic one of the better stories I played through. Obvious good, obvious evil, good guys who are bad, and even bad guys who are good. A good portion of the game was a gray area for morals and ethics. Guild Wars 2 mostly just you and the undead. Story just isn’t as captivating. The lack of customization just leads to stagnate game play. Sure you can change your weapons or your 3 utility skills elites, in my opinion, are irrelevant with an average recharge time of 2 minutes or more. The bots well those will ruin any game and really no need to expound on that. Maybe the problem is I was expecting some similarity between Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2. Maybe i played through that Guild Wars 1 story and just watched the plot twist and turn. Fighting the charr then wandering through the mountains allying with the white mantle then killing the white mantle going through the desert only the end up back in the mountains eventually to kill the man who started the whole thing. Now you kill undead…followed by oooooooo more undead eventaully toooo an undead dragon.
The crafting was fun, the increase in size of guild and multi-guilding was also nice. Fantastic job on the special Halloween event. Trading post was another excellent addition. I lag too much to comment on pvp/wvw.
I know I don’t speak for all nor do I claim that I am. Perhaps I only speak for myself and nobody else shares these sentiments. I just feel like the expectations I had for the game in terms of replayability lacks a lot. Just a game with so much to offer dynamically is very static. An opportunity to have twist and turns in the story is very predictable. A game with ample achievements more or less just a grind with nothing to show for accomplishing them.
I say this because I hate to see a game with so much potential to die off in a few months because theres no sense of completion and an overwhelming sense of redundancy.
