Ground targeting skills outside of range
The problem is they WANT it so that it takes skill. This is part good and part bad, its nearly impossible to use some skills such as Blink and LF to their full effect when you are in the middle of a fight and in need of defense.
They should simply change them. Make it so they work like Rocket Jump. You press it and you go max skill distance in the direction you are looking in.
+1 OP. I have this problem with my thief and using SB or Shadowstep to escape. You just can’t be quick about it. And it has nothing to do with skill imo, it has to do with being lucky enough to move your mouse to max range on your first try.

Skill should not come from working your way around unclear targeting and UI. And don’t forget engineers have Jump Shot which is ground targeted and they would lose.
It doesn’t h ave to be a complicated system. If I am pointing at the ground I will port to that exact spot on the ground, if I am pointing in the air I will port max range in the direction I am pointing.
It can’t be that hard to implement, this system already exists for some targetd skiills. Target an opponent with RTL and you will go right to them, look straight up (if you use auto-target) and you will go full range in the direction you are facing, even when surrounded by enemies. Just do the same thing except applied to ground targeting.

You would think that it wouldnt be to hard to implement, this is Anet if they ever did this they would likely add it bugged, broken and unfinished….
Yeah, +1.
I miss the mark ground targetting quite a bit because of this if I overshoot by a hair. Love the idea.

I don’t know that i agree that it’s skill. If max range is so far off that it has to do with skill, your attack will miss anyway. isn’t that ample punishment for bad skill?
I think this is more of a control issue, and mouses (or is it mice?) can be tempermental
Yes, if I drop the skill past the range limit it should go off at the range limit. Hell it would be even better if I were physically incapable of holding the target past the range limit. They’re able to restrict the movement of line attacks, why can’t they force my AoE reticle to stay within its range bounds?

Personally i dont think its skill, more luck than anything else. In a frantic fight when you are out numbered and such getting pulled left right and centre it can be VERY hard to make the full use of such skills (Blink, LF) where as skills such as Rocket Boots, RtL and all the other mobility skills such as the MANY warrior have are pretty much: Look the way you want to go and press a button that is all, no skill in that.
It’s most definitely not skill to try and guess which bump in the ground ahead of you is within max range. You can’t just hold out the mouse and know you’re at the right spot from muscle memory because the shape of the ground changes your view and where that spot is. Anyone who think otherwise has not actually spent any real time tinkering with these powers.

Talking about the ground, what else is annoying is using a skill and then getting stuck on a stone and the skill being wasted :/

In an attempt to not give some classes an unfair advantage in jumping puzzles (and I really can’t think of any other case where it could make sense, though possibly invading keeps in WvW) they made it so you couldn’t teleport past gaps. This has had the unfortunate effect of causing the stupidest things to be viewed by the system as gaps, eating teleporting powers.
So a ledge that is slightly too tall? That’s a gap. A space that you could actually have jumped past? No that’s a gap you can’t go there.

WvW, Durios Tower you have that little cliff bit where it has the ledge and then the part near the bridge. You can RtL over that gap, you can Rocket Jump over that gap never tried Blink but it SHOULD work. So if you can do that and that isnt a small rock its an actual gap then the skills should bloody ignore tiny rocks -.-
if quick targeting is broken then simply don’t use it, i never use it and i am faster then most.

It IS faster, when you are using Ground Target AoE attacks, when you are in the middle of a fight you are going to want to use your AoE near yourself. When you are trying to get AWAY the AoE movement skills that use fast casting or what ever it is called becomes terrible and unreliable.
Love it.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
That would be great. Let it go off to max distance in the direction the camera is pointing. It’s awkward and clumsy to drag my mouse around from wherever it happens to be sitting and move it to some spot, hopefully not to far away, while in the middle of a fight.
Heck, I don’t even care that I will occasionally leap off a cliff doing this. At least the skill will be usable on a regular basis and not just every once in a great while.

That happens all the time with my elem, especially Lava font and Glyph of Storms :C It’s really annoying too since the majority of over-time damage is from those attacks…
Either make it work like Ride the Lightning or like I precised on the first post. Give us either. It’s ruining my fun right now because the casting is broken currently.
The thief arrow teleport skill is useless while moving. If you move the pointer in the direction you are traveling then by the time you click on the map you are almost there anyway. If you move the pointer in a direction you are not traveling then by the time you click on the map it’s usually too far away. Doing it in the middle of a fight means you have to stop moving, reposition the pointer, click on the map and then use the skill. It’s doable but clunky.

I’m Kite and I support this idea!
As a grenade engi, it would make my life a lot easier!

This is the way ground targeting skills work in several other games. Skill shots in League of Legends use this mechanic. I don’t think anybody (except the one guy who did so in this thread) can claim that this makes it any less skillful to use.
Added bonus, this should be a fairly trivial change to make.
