Grouping with more than 5 people
If there were open challenging events that actually took some teamwork/communication you would have exactly what you’re looking for. They just need to work on the events, or atleast the meta events and their prerequisite event chains.
To be honest, I would be happy with a max party size of 10 or 12. You always have those odd wheels that want to join but aren’t able.
Trying to run with multiple groups in both WvW and PvE areas is so frustrating. It doesn’t matter if we use voice communication…. it just doesn’t make sense to not have basic tools and grouping mechanics in a modern day MMO.
Well, in PvE the main issue is that since you can play alone, everyone has individual goals. DEs draw people together, then once it’s over, everyone disperses in every direction. Being in a party just slows you down in a game where you have to stay active constantly if your goal is to get something that hinges on some currency, due to the low income and high gold sinks.
In something like WvW, I think parties should hold about 7 people, and squads should not hold 30 people, but rather, 7 parties, all collapsed under one title, totaling to almost 50 people per squad (which is the amount of people usually in a big mob anyway).
Honestly I think GW2 would benefit nicely from a public group system similar to rifts. Where when you make a party you can set it to public and people can join/leave at will. I believe the max size for their parties is like 5 and after that it auto switches to a raid frame. With the way Dynamic events work in this game it would be awesome if we could have bigger groups to make doing those large dynamic more coordinated.

This game does not need any sort of raid frames.
Some games do groups of 4.
Some games do groups of 8.
In a party CTRL + T calles out the target for the group.
T will target the called out target.
The called target gets a target marker over its head.
I have yet to encounter any group even that requires such precesion in assist targets. Most trash is dead on arrival.
And the veteran, champion, and super elite mobs are VERY clearly marked already for you.
Any boons and or support is genaerlly an AOE and its effects are granted to everyone in the radius.
As for healing, you have your OWN heal skills and your OWN defensive skills. Keeping yourself alive should not be a big issue, especially in the open world.
It’s been suggested by a number of people since the first BWE… add some kind of RAID frame. A medium sized grouping mechanic for up to 20-25 people that show groups, player health bars, unique colored raid dots on map and the ability to assist targets.
Yeah, more UI clutter when we should be watching the gameplay. That’s exactly what we need.

5 is perfect, it’s for all those with a small group of friends or small to medium guild doing stuff together.

Well I’m not sure what you would call it, it’s certainly not the best grouping system I’ve played. Previous MMO’s that have been out for years all have flexible group setups to suit players needs.

Yeah, more UI clutter when we should be watching the gameplay. That’s exactly what we need.
Player and guild needs have all sorts of variety, what’s fun for some people may be different for others. You need to have the tools for social interaction and coordination. If they added some sort of raid grouping system and you hated the clutter, don’t use it. Many guilds would use something in a heartbeat that allowed us all to group together. The commander and squad system in it’s current state does not work for what players need. It needs to be something anyone in the guild can start or form. Not bound to a single player on a single character just so the guild can group over 5 people.
Just having guild mate “dots” being a different color other than green on the map would really help. Especially in WvW !
I’d like more tools for bigger groups.
I think it’d help build social groups and strengthen my ties to the community.
Running around whether in the world or the pvp maps, it’s easy to view the rest of the players as equivalent to the many nameless NPCs. No connection at all.
Maybe a book for 10G to allow a raid of 10. A book for 20G for groups of 20. Can’t buy the 20, without buying the 10.
At 10G most people can do this pretty easily and most will. At 20G, fewer people will do this, but pretty easy to get to in time.
This will also prevent having 20+ commanders on a map in the future. Getting bad enough with 3 or 4 as it is.

Gotta love posts like this… Complainers and their over exaggerations. Guess I’m going to start to ignore some posters.
About the topic, I believe they could easly add something related to the Rift public groups, altho I don’t think it’s anywhere needed. But it could be an interesting addition to the game.
Raid frames, as long as it is PvE only, I don’t see a problem. For PvP, that is what the commander mechanic is all about.
Now, one of the reasons you see more evolved grouping/raiding interfaces on other mmos is that here you basically don’t need a group for anything. You don’t need to be in a group to get monster xp, nor loot or anything else at all. On every other mmo, if you are not grouped with someone who just tagged a mob, you won’t get anything from it, even if you do a lot of dmg.
I think you misclicked on general discussion when you wanted suggestions.
Oh but wait, the title is a jab at Anet instead of an honest call to improve the game, I get it you did choose the right forum after all.
Now if only they had a passive aggressive/veiled threats forum all these could go in.
