Guesting, World Events and Lag [Merged Threads]
The lag has almost nothing to do with guesting. Most of time the map will still overflow without guesting due to the improved loot.
The other problem is a real issue though. It’s fundamentally wrong that people guesting can be in a map while permanent residents of the server are locked out in an overflow. Honestly it feels like having someone come into your house and eat all your food while you have to pick up scraps.
End Questing now! Also add a check mark for particles effects. So folks can turn off player effects from cast/bows/guns to help with large number of folks in one place.
I agree, Anet needs to limit chest drops to your world server to take the edge off the lagging at these events. I always assumed guesting was for if you had a buddy on another server and wanted to chill with them for a while, not to use as a tool to claim chest drops just because the dragon timer says so and so server is ready for you.
This needs to be fixed ASAP as it is a serious problem if a player is unable to do an event because of people guesting on there server. My suggestion is to disable guesting completely until this issue is fixed
Adding another voice to this request. Some people are saying this was fixed so it does not happen, well obviously that is not true due to so many players still doing it.
World Event chests should only be allowed on the account’s Home World.
Restrict guests from getting loot from chests sounds good to me.
Davidah (Guardian) Goloith (Engineer)
Achuni (Mesmer) Doreanora (Thief)
So I’m off doing whatever in game and a guildy says that all the dragon windows are right behind each other, so by the time we finish tequatl, Shatterer will be up, and then CoJ… and so forth.
So I say what the heck why not, nothing better else to do.
I get there, and the lag ruins these once great events because SO MANY people are there, making it even hard to get off a “1” skill.
It came to my attention that the reason so many people were there was due to GUESTING, which is already being abused as people are just switching servers all day to farm these events.
Please make it so that if someone is to be able to guest on a server they must be invited by a player on that server, to help lower the amount of players farming these events and making them actually playable.
Events in my home server are now unplayable due to people farming world events through guesting.
Ways to fix this.
If you’re guesting on a map, NO WORLD CHESTS FOR YOU!
Cue “But I didn’t get any bread” remarks from event farmers.
Erm…
I don’t see what the problem is. Does the realm crash when these events happen? Does the event get bugged when large amounts of people are around? Or does your computer just buckle under the strain of so much activity in one area?
If it’s the last one, try turning down your video settings temporarily and if that doesn’t work, try getting a better computer. I hate to be blunt but you’re essentially asking for A.net to punish people wanting to guest with their friends/guilds just so you can get loot, which isn’t cool.
I guess the problem is sometimes u will be moved to overflow bcoz too much ppl.
It’s not people “Guesting” to hang out with their friends and family. They are just farming dragons. And the event lags so bad it seems you are just standing there. As far as the computer being at fault, well my specs are Intel Core i7 3820Q,M, 2 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M (SLI), 16GB DDR3 1600 DRAM. Yeah not the computer. Anet needs to take the rewards away for “Guesting” from chests. If you want them then get them on your server, If you want to “hang out” with people move to their server. Stop lagging mine.
Well yeah, that’s true but that’s why you get there with plenty of time to spare so you can go from overflow to the actual zone in time for the event to start. Showing up at the last minute isn’t going to do you any favors.
It’s human error in all cases. The events are not unplayable it’s just that either the OP is showing up too late (so they’re stuck in overflow and show up after the mob is dead) or they don’t have a computer decent enough to handle the excessive amounts of animations and spell effects (and yes it can get pretty laggy at times) which causes the game to crash so that the player misses out.
None of these reasons justify a change which penalizes a large amount of players.
Well something does need too be done. I suggest removing all awards from chest from guests unless it’s in an instanced dungeon.
Easy solution, Anet just takes away the rewards from people “Guesting” unless it’s an instanced dungeon or mob drop.
I agree with looting chests only from your home server.
I was against all of this guesting is causing problems until I read this.
“It came to my attention that the reason so many people were there was due to GUESTING, which is already being abused as people are just switching servers all day to farm these events”.
If they are doing this I agree a fix somehow is needed. I don’t think they should not get awards for guesting. I think they need to be invited and stay with their friends who invited them. Kinda like if a friend lvls u up so you can play together, but if you leave them you will go back to your lvl. So they can only get rewards if they are with who ever invited them. If they are not with their friends they can’t get world boss rewards.
That alone would make sure people can still play with their friends, get rewards, but stop people going from many of the servers. It still might be able to get around it by farmers being friends and inviting eachother, but it would make them have to plan and do more work and stick together to get it all done. Only people are on their home server can invite people. It might cut back on it (perhaps not all of it), at least enough so it might not be such a big problem any more.
I also think that Anet should be able to track who jumps from server to server everyday. That would be a warning that they’re farming world bosses. And who would need more than 5 world jumps a day? No one that’s just playing the game, even if you’re going to play with friends you’re not going to even need 5 most likely.
Price Drop before Event (Finel Rest Staff ) 100golds …….. price now 19 golds Event was not known before….The economy is collapsing…. Tive ranching economy server….

I would suggest a party structure like those in instances – if you leave or are kicked out of the party, you’re booted out of the server you’re guesting on and you automatically go back to your home server, in the same spot you were when you left. This means that you nominate your guesting servers at log-in as normal, but then you get the “Join x in x” when you right-click their name, which THEN enables you to guest with them.

What happens if someone discons.? I assume they could be invited right back when they get back on. But they should be able to guest with their friends for any reason, not just for an event. Even if it’s just to hang out in a group.

There would be no restriction, disconnection or otherwise – just re-join your party members if you leave for whatever reason. Which means you can traverse zones with them etc, you just have to be in a group with someone present on that server. That means you can do whatever you want with friends cross-server, but it cuts down on farmers that lag out people on their home servers taking the brunt of the impact, at least a little.

I don’t show up late; I watch the timers religiously to ensure that I get there before the pre-events even start. I’ve never been stuck on an overflow server for a world event, but I know plenty of people who have. And it’s not my computer; my machine was custom built to handle high end games. The skill lag was not an issue until guesting was implemented, it’s a new issue. But when an issue becomes so large that it affects hundreds of people in an area, this case it’s a server, then it is a justifiable reason to implement a change. I’m sorry if I don’t like seeming like I stand still at these world events while I’m playing on my beast of a computer. Sometimes, it is an actual problem server side and not the players’ computer.
