Finally got to fighting Zhaitan in story mode and to be honest I was a bit disappointed. The encounter felt a bit long and lacked the epic feel I was expecting. Though it looked amazing, being in the dungeon with only 5 people and lots of NPC’s kind of left me wanting to do that fight with more players.
I do come from raiding in other MMOs but hated the gear progression grind that they had which is why I would never want to see gear progression in GW2 and applaud Arenanet for not including it in the game. However It would be awesome to see ArenaNet add a type of raiding that is evolved and better than what is in other MMORPGs. One which doesn’t include gear progression but does require a higher level of player skill and communication to complete.
Why not have guild only dungeons that scale according to how many guild members are in the dungeon. This would tie into the idea of wanting to be in a guild to be able to do the harder encounters in the game.
Most of us have done all three dragon encounters and the dragons do look epic and better than any dragons I’ve seen in a game but the fights do feel like zerg fests instead of a good coordinated assault to bring down these epic dragons. Would love to see these encounters be less forgiving and maybe have the next dragon encounters in instances/dungeons where only guilds can enter. Maybe reward players with BoP (bind on pickup) items/gear such as loadstones or weapon/armor skins.
I Love GW2 and the world ArenaNet has created in Tyria. If Anet could take the best raiding features of other games and eliminate the negatives of raiding (such as gear progression and limited players in instances) GW2 would evolve another aspect of MMORPGs and set itself apart again as it did with showing other companies how to be successful with the F2P model of gaming.

In the new blog that was released today, they mentioned something along those lines.

“We’re working on adding new types of content to the game in early 2013 that will allow guilds to go on missions together. Some of these missions may be content designed specifically for the guild to accomplish within certain constraints or time requirements while others see the creation of new content by a guild/s everyone in the world can experience. Over time we’ll continue to expand this system with new guild rewards, missions, and tools to allow guilds, of all sizes, to play a stronger part in solidifying the communities of the GW2 world.”

It may not be dungeons, but at least they are putting something in. I hope they still add larger player cap to dungeons.

Oh thanks just found the blog after I read this. It would be awesome if those missions would be open world meta events guild have to start or something like that. Glad to see they have plans for it. I’ve just always thought they’re missing an opportunity to do something awesome in the game if they ignored encounters that require coordination.

Guild specific dungeons would be cool. They would offer influence for the guild as a reward, and obviously rewards for players. What would be cool is if they made it were some X amount of coin would be added to the bank on completion.
