I know a lot of people will disagree, but please hear me out before flaming me.

The guilds that require 100% representation, will do so either way with or without this mechanic being in the game. I know most players enjoy being part of multiple guilds, and I’m perfectly ok with that – to each his own.

I think the guilds that require 100% rep should be allowed to make a setting where the guild requires exclusive representation. That is, players would be notified of this and would not be able to stop repping without leaving the guild.

Alternatively, it could allow the players to only stop repping for some set amount of time before forcing them to rep again. (For example, you can only unrep for 5 minutes every hour)

No thank you.

I would much prefer that A-Net spend development time on things that benefit all players and not just those dictatorial guild leaders who believe they have the right to control the players who join their guild. If a guild requires 100% representation, and the members have agreed to that, the leader has the ability to kick them without this exisiting.

I can see both sides to this argument. I am one of those people that has no use in splitting my time between multiple guilds as it completely distracts from any sense of guild loyalty in my opinion. Especially if you are in some sort of leadership position (leader/officer) within a guild.

At the same time, differing time zone and play times, differing things guilds like to do, alliances from GW1, etc. make having multiple guilds useful. I think smaller guilds tend to suffer the most from the system in place, but I’m not sure an option to enforce 100% representation would be met by the player base as anything less than a dictatorship from the guild leader that enforces it.

Honestly, I think some of these representation problems could be solved if they just reimplemented the alliance system that has been frustratingly missed by myself and many other people in my guild/alliance that I know. Keep being able to be in multiple guilds, but at the same time introduce alliances and a dedicated alliance chat so that communication is easy between multiple guilds.

I would LOVE to have alliance chat again. That is my number one request with this game.

As the leader of a guild that requires representation, I would love a feature like this. Instead of a “stand-down” option, or being able to represent another guild, it should inform that user that doing so would leave the current guild. I already ask everyone who joins if they’re ok with 100% rep and sure enough they say yes, but down the road there are those that “forget” or opt-out.

On the other hand, I do allow people to use personal guilds for bank purposes so while I agree something needs to be done about representation with guilds that require it, it can’t just kick people for going to their guild bank.

Not going to happen. It’s a waste of Arena’s resources and money and time, all 3 of which they are already lacking.

Are you Shpongled?

It’s a waste because it’s not something you want personally?

It would really help me and many others like me.

Just because an improvement only affects a certain percentage of the population doesn’t make it a waste.

If a guild is going to try to force 100% rep it is their problem to enforce it. There is no reason to waste ANet’s time making a mechanic that goes against the design of the game in order to support it.

I actually like the idea. Some guilds do want you to rep 100% of the time. Mine doesn’t, so it wouldn’t matter to me. Having in black and white via game mechanics would be fine by me.

Very good sugestion I Think. As leader of a small Guild we are very dependant on that ppl are repping if we are ever going to be able to throw any Guild missions or the like…

(Opinionated Rant) I dislike the 100% rep guilds as it feels like a dictatorship and a little egotistic. If somebody is 100% loyal they won’t need the rule. If somebody is only online contributing to the guild 2 hours a day but are 100% representing, how are they better than somebody who is online 10 hours a day but splits their time repping two guilds? I think people should realise that they will still get good quality members who share time representing guilds and often the reason for non-representing is due to the lack of organisation in the guild. <- but that is why I am personally in a guild that doesn’t have that rule, even though I do rep 100% apart from accessing my extra bank.

I understand how this would be useful though: there’s not always a mod or leader online and if you really want to enforce a rule like this it means you have a massive hole in your security. If there is a possibility of implementing this rule (a check box for the guild admin), then at least there should be some kind of ‘warning’ on the invitation: e.g. “Invitation from For Victory [DIG] 100% representation required”. (I suggest this because I became a member to a guild I was quite interested in but hadn’t been told about the 100% representation, then was deeply disappointed about their rule but didn’t want to leave my dano-norwegian current guild).

However, there is a solution behind this that doesn’t require resources and development from arenanet. Be a little more lenient: if you catch people not representing, drop their privileges down so that they can’t access the guild bank and other extras (a group called ‘Non-Representers’, I’ve seen this implemented from a screenshot on the wiki). If they stay, obviously they are truly loyal despite not repping for a while. If they go, maybe they are prioritising the bonuses they receive from the guild rather than the community

I would be fine with some guilds having enforced representation, in that standing down was an automatic removal from the Guild by the game mechanics.

“Invitation from For Victory [DIG] 100% representation required”.

A message on invite just like that would work for me as a warning when joining, not that I would plan on joining.

What I want with Guilds though is alliance chat, currently some of these are done though the creation of new guilds as a work around.

And this is where I think there is a slight failure in the current guild system in place. A lot of the features and things you can get as a guild are very hard to achieve when you are a guild between 20-30 of mostly casual players just playing for fun. Sadly that turned off a lot of people in my other small guild which has been around since 2008 in GW1.
