Guild Hall Airships
I’m all for this
a Blend of all Race tech’s together
Asuran power system
Charr Engine
Norn Cabin Interior
Human Weaponry
All held together by Sylvari plants as a self sustaining system
How awesome would this be?!?!
As a guild hall, that would be a good idea.
For combat, it would be entirely too complicated and i doubt it would happen, at least not right away, and if anything quite a few years later.
I could see this being a hilariously awesome tool in WvW.
However, I don’t think it really belongs anywhere else, unless we come up with a capital city like Lion’s Arch that has airdocks. Free roaming around the world would be difficult, and frankly, probably alot less enjoyable than you imagine (other than for bragging rights).
1) You’d still have to zone. Not like you can fly over the mountains.
2) There would be no way to balance any kind of combat interaction with the PvE, so there won’t be any.
BUT… it would still be cool to have a giant air limo and be able to drop a rope ladder to kittenes and have them party with you.
That would be a great way to implement a guild instance. They couldn’t really allow you to fly it around the PvE world (it would either be too good or worthless), but airships could have some kind of role in WvW.

Because of how zones are separated by portals, I don’t think this will be possible.
Although… If they were to build an island specifically for airship combat, something similar might work! But that’s a huge project

There are definitely some challenges, but I think someone could come up with a solution. Maybe at least they could be instanced – stationary above Lion’s Arch and then used in that island (as in the above idea). I think there could be a really cool story element to that. Maybe the island has some kind of epic need for a fleet of airships in the story and the same work on that could be re-used for a WvW map?
How about A “guild story” akin to a personal story. Gradually work you way to getting an airship. Have a guild instanced base much like your personal instance. As your guild gets acheivments you can upgrade it and so on.
Perhaps at some point there might be a zone thats a floating armada dock, than can dock a hundred airships. A prestige thing your ship needs to be the best of the best to be allowed to dock I.e. guild rating top 100 if such a thing were to be implemented.
And then cool scheduled optional events that everyone with an airship there can engage some nasty dragon for treasure. (though others can come join in they just dont get the prestige of having their airship in the battle)
So many options you could do with it. Very cool addition to the game.
Oh hell yes…and also, regular water ships! Or it could just be a giant stationary airship in the air where guildmates can hang out and such.

Unfortunately, because of the instanced nature of the game, I don’t think this will be possible.

Instanced nature..? The only instances in GW2 are the home one, dungeons, and the ones used for your story..and maybe a few other random ones here and there. Unless youre mixing up zones with instances, which i feel like you are.

Don’t limit this to just guilds though, I’m not in a guild and probably won’t ever be in one, maybe I should join one? Any matter, Airship combat would RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zones are instances as well.
To fix the instancing problem you would need to “bind” each guild to a specific map, and you would need to pay to transfer to another map, like you do with a waypoint. However, I think the main problem is with the sheer number of guilds. You’d be seeing a lot of flying ships spread around the map when no one is using them.

Well… The game IS called Guild Wars, so expecting people to be in a guild Isn’t too unreasonable, I feel X:
More airships is always better.

Lol you’re right it is but I’m not in a Guild and wouldn’t know what type of Guild to join if I did. I don’t get to play games much and I know you have to be committed and what not but I have responsibilities and games don’t come first so I’d probably just hold everyone back. I’ve only been able to spend about 8 hours on the game since release date so yeah, I guess I shouldn’t have bought the game and it seems ridiculous that I bought the game if I couldn’t invest a ton of time into it. I don’t know anyone that plays this game nor do I know anyone that plays PC games all my friends are on console. I know it’s just a list of excuses but I feel like I would be a bad player if I joined a Guild with little time to play the game. Guess I shouldn’t be complaining about the feature only being for Guilds if I don’t have time to play the game right lol

Not traditional instances as we think of them. Technically, zones are a form of instance, but when we heard instance we think of story quests, home area, dungeons, etc.
GW2 is stll classified as a persistent world MMO
I’ll just place this here: http://wp.me/p2l6Yp-1n
Been saying for a while that Guild Airships would be super awesome. If you have done Arah SM then that one airship would be good.
