Still waiting on any kind of news about this. We really need a guild update. UI and permission changes (more flexibility), things to do all week long with our guildies other than dungeons or WvW, guild halls, etc. My guild has done a great job trying to keep everyone together and building the community we have but we need a little more from Anet to keep things going strong. The living stories just aren’t cutting it as we finish that kind of thing within a day and have the next 13 days with nothing much else to do.
It will be awesome if we did have them. One of my favorite things about LOTRO was that before a guild mision we would all go to our guild hall and discuss strategies and have fun.

I’m sure they are working on this as they said a long long time ago that they would have these sorts of things post launch. Obviously it isn’t perfected yet, and it could even be introduced in the first expansion. Speaking of which, isn’t it about time we started speculating on gw2 first expansion? It’s been long enough that they must at least be a good ways into development.
Personally I found I don’t care for alliances, at least not the ones from GW1.
In GW1 a less than savory person would wait till there was no officer in guild then proceed to troll the entire alliance, with nobody being in a position to do anything, as one example.
They need better tools to moderate an alliance, if it’s to happen.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

Sorry that you ended up in such an unfortunate alliance/guild then :S
I never experienced any problems in my alliance, the guild leaders all kept in very good contact with one another so if there was someone causing trouble then it would be brought up to a guild leader who would then let the other guild leaders in the alliance know and the troublemaker would be removed. All in all I think it works pretty well and I certainly hope alliances make a return at some point, although I am not sure to what point considering GW2 has specific servers so you are in effect in an alliance with all the members of your server.
