I remember playing guild wars there was a little place where there could be vendors. I am in a guild of about 21 people and about 5 hardcore people. We don’t mind buying gems either. Believe it or not some of the best part of a game is the simulation. My girlfriend spent 1 hour just customizing her character.

One thing I think ANEt should think of, is having dedicated instanced Islands for guilds. In these Islands individuals could buy houses and decorate them. Decorate the Island. Have tiers of Islands from small to huge. People love that simulation stuff. Not having it, itself, but just the pursuit of it. Ultima Online player housing was big and people LOVED IT. People played hours of that game to earn enough to buy a digital home and to customize it. I bet ANet could make a lot of money selling houses in the gem store, or Island additions in the gem store. My big reccomendation if you implement the Islands is to have them upgradable. Have them look kind of crappy at first and then you can add things like beaches, greener grass, etc. You can charge players karma, gold, honor badges, dungeon tokens, gems, etc for each unique addition. Trust me when I say, this is a license to print money.

Guild Island? – Love it.

Player housing? – Hate it.

Beaches, as in to tan on? Hate it.

Green grass?! THOU TALKEST OF BLASPHEMY

An island that could act as a central hub for guild members to hang out and cool down from long dungeon runs or hour longs in WvW is a lovely idea.

Player housing, for people to obsess over and spend endless hours in when they already spend endless hours in their own REAL homes? I don’t think that’s what ANet had in mind for GW2. This is not the Sims.

There is a concept businesses have, called “Target Market”.

It encompasses the idea that your business should only aim at a particular group of people to tailor its product for. By identifying who they want to sell to, they can refine their strategies and make a good product.

GW2 is not made for players into housing. They’re made for playing into MMORPG content – Exploration, Dungeon-crawling, Crafting, etc..

“Bleeding, Poison, Confusion, Torment, they all look delightful on you.”

Exactly. It doesn’t have to interfere with the game at all. It doesn’t have to take much time to code since it’s a small instanced area. Make sure the guild islands cost gold, gems, or karma to upkeep to keep people in the game. Keep housing on the guild Island. Let the guild master be able to tax guild members to keep paying on the Island.

The bigger the Islands the bigger the taxes. Have unique armor and weapon skins associated with each type of islands with cool looking effect. This encourages cooperation and sense of community.

People love MMORPG’s but I know many people that love the sim stuff associated with this. I had a few friends spend hours and hours renting houses out in fable 3…..a roleplaying game. This is an addition to the guild war experience that is optional for people that want to do it and a way for gw2 to generate cash to keep it running.

Legendary’s will only keep people busy for so long. It’s going to need something else for the obsessive completionists to work on.
