Guild Wars 2: Bard Profession
It should totally be like this guy as well:
In all seriousness, I think the mechanic is too much like the Elementalist.
Instead, what about a mechanic based around combining notes together?
For example, F1 – F4 would be notes Mute, C, D and E.
These notes wouldn’t have a cooldown to switch between, and auto attack would queue up that particular note (mute wouldn’t queue a note up).
When a chord (3 notes) is made, it’d create an effect / give your next skill an additional effect / boost the effect of your next skill (whether it be a personal buff, group buff, attack effect, debuff ect), and put the F2 – F4 notes onto a short cooldown.
For example:
- C, C, C would heal you for a moderate amount, while C, C, D would heal you and all allies around you (with the heal amount being divided by how many players it heals).
- D, D, D would cause the next attack to also apply weakness.
- E, E, E would give you x stacks of, say, Might.
- C, D, C would cause all allies around your target to steal their boon at half the duration.
Ect Ect
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
I say the same to this, like in the Chronomancer Thread.
Bards just aren’t made for being an own class in itself, they just make up for one of the best options as Mesmer-Sub Class as the whole Chaos Magic Concept goes very well hand in hand with the way how Songs of a Bard would have influence in battles…
because Songs (Music) in general can have at the same time positive, as like negative effects, just like Chaos Magic works for Mesmers, all their Chaos based skilsl always have positive and negative effects on allies and foes at the same time.
Music is also a great form of Inspiration, what is also part of the Mesmer.
So a Bard would be just the most logical specialization of a Mesmer, who specialized itself very much mainly on Chaos and Inspiration Magic.
Turning Focus Artefacts into magical Instruments would be just a normal thing to happen. In fact, the game already has some Focus Artefacts, that are based on Instrruments – lets take the Minstrel, the most strongest one for example.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Minstrel
Its a Focus Artefact based on the design of a HARP and this literalyl the most perfect Focus Artefact for a Mesmer, which has specialized itself into a Bard.
The Shatter Mechanism of a Mesmern can just change for a Bard into “Tunes”, or we could use also the Term of “Inspirations” that could take influence on the outcome of the various skill effects and if they are either of positive nature for allies, or negative nature against foes. and also have various different effects on clones/phantasms at the same time as improvement over the basic Shatter System, that simply only destroys clones to perform various effects.
Inspirations for example could alterate instead Clones/Phantasms into different versions based on various different Emotions for example.
Emotions like Hatred, Love, Sorrow and Luck
Hatred > Influence on Strength
Love > Influence on Vitality
Sorrow > Influence on Toughness
Luck > Influence on Precision
for example as emotions can be also a great part of inspiration.
I really don’t know about a “bard” on the battlefield….. Just seems a wee bit silly to me (at least following the actual definition of a bard).
I do agree though, that a profession that influences allies and foes through some kind of magic combined with music would be cool. If anything, I’d imagine it sort of like the Ritualist from GWF (Makes me think ‘spirit of bloodsong’ or ‘spirit of dissonance’)… Music is often said to be tied to the soul, so there could be this profession that specializes with non-physical realms; has an intimate understanding of what the Asura refer to as the eternal alchemy, and uses music (and sound in general) as their medium.
With enough of the Anet devs’ creative juices this could shape up to be something pretty awesome and totally unique.
In all honesty though I’m not sure how much of a priority they consider making a new profession to be right now. For some reason that just seems to me like something that would be a long way off… ):
Anyway, a profession that only has a choice between 2 weapons that aren’t really weapons doesn’t sound very attractive to me personally. Having the lute and flute as options would be pretty kitten, but there would have to be others like the staff, focus, scepter, maybe even a dagger or sword (also some kind of musical device that could be manipulated with one hand). But there would definitely need to be enough choices for players to not get bored with the profession too fast.
At first I couldn’t take this seriously (gotta be honest) but after some thought I’m starting to see the appeal.
Anyway, I just think the concept of using music in battle in some way or another is rather intriguing
Reminds me of the Bard class in the game Forsaken World. Their description:
“ Bards hold a harp, walking all over the land, telling the histories of great heroes and their deeds.
“Bards travel the world with their harps, singing about the deeds of great heroes all over the land. In combat, Bards can use their exceptional music ability to debilitate enemies while assisting their allies.
“What Bards lack in combat skills, they certainly make [up] for in the mysterious effects their songs have on enemies and allies alike. With such powerful and versatile siren-like abilities at their disposal, all will be affected in one way or another. When a bard is present, an average group can become a great group.”
When I saw the dredge using music to inspire their allies against me, I couldn’t help but think of the Forsaken World bard to a simple degree. I would give Bard a go if indeed it were a mesmer sub-profession, as mentioned by Orpheal.8263. I would lose the Forsaken World over-fancy clothing though.

Wasn’t this already suggested with much more work put in and details written up and not only about 1 profession but loads of them in page four hundred sixty six and topic #thirteen thousand nine hundred ninety seven ?
