hello everyone .

here is an idea that i have in mind .

alright guys i know that GW1 didnt have mounts and Anet stated that they wont add mounts because they want ppl to be more involved with the game and enjoying the zones rather than speeding up and skipping the great environment.. which is a Solid point of view.

there is also Waypoints and Asura’s teleport gate ,so mounts is not really needed.

i know all that and i agree with it .

but since GUILDWARS 2 is all about enjoying the game and having fun ,not like other MMOS where the game becomes a jop and u have to do this and do that and all that boring stuff.

what if gw2 made a cool friendly mount system.

the idea i have in mind that the mount would give the same speed as “Swiftness:boon”
which is 33%.

but here is the fun part.. the mount wont give u that increased speed right away, u have to train it first.

for example:

u buy the mount and get to care for it and enjoy it ,as if it is ur pet.

-the mount at start will be weak lets say rank C.
-the mount will be slow will give u increased speed 5% only .
-it has stamina so it get tired so u cant use it all the time.
-when u use it to climb a hill it gets tired and slows down " it would be faster for u to walk than use it".
-if u jump from a high place the mount legs is not strong enough to absorb the impact so u both get knocked down for X amount of time.
-when u run down a hill the mount is not agile enough so it falls down and so r u and u get knocked down for X amount of time.
-when u train ur mount and it reach rank B u get bonus speed 20% and the mount become smoother than it used to be.
-and so on untill its rank A and u get 33% movement speed and its agile and strong enough to carry you.
-also something that is cool ,for example ,after dismounting the mount can give u a random boon for 5 sec, or have its own ability that cant be used in combat ?

the idea is it would be better for u to walk than use ur mount..so ppl get to enjoy the idea behind mount system.
and when the mount at its highest rank it would be just the same as Swiftness:boon .. so it wont be something that is unbalanced or take away something from the game.. and u can make it just pve item or whatever.

there is so much more things that can be added to it and i have alot more ideas for that system but i dont want u to read a 1 hour long post.

what do u guys think of my idea ?

He pretty much summed up my thoughts.

We got cosmetic mounts now , get ya broomstick from the gem shop
and hold out for a true mount system.

For some reason people don`t like the idea of mounts and I cannot understand why. To me any option that can enhance or provide any extra fun to a game is a good move. Notice I said option, meaning the people that don`t like the idea don`t have to partake in it and can move on. But for the people who would like to see something like that, why not? I saw a post in another thread where someone mentioned they didn`t want to see mounts blocking npc`s. Easy fix there. EQ2 had an option to disable the graphics for mounts so people that didn`t want to see them didn`t have to. Still have an argument for them now after hearing that? Sooner or later they will be added mark my words. All it needed was broom to get it started.

Waste of Dev time. The game has serious issues that needs addressing before something that is 1000% not needed is even thought to be added.

The OP can be summarized into the following points:

• Guild Wars 2 is fun, and is meant to be fun.
• Other MMOs feel like a job because of grind.
• Let’s add in mounts, because they’re fun!
• But lets not give benefits to mounts, unless you grind for those benefits.

Right, contradictory much? You’re saying you want to make GW2 more fun, then suggest adding something which removes that fun.

The game already has a problem where it favors players who grind dungeons repeatedly (whereas those who do everything else get fewer benefits in comparison). So lets not widen that issue, shall we?

We have said many times the reasons why having mounts are completely useless. We hear the arguments that “They can be only cosmetic!” but you miss the fact that cosmetic trophies already exist in the form of the mini system. You say “They can only provide a minimal boost to speed” but that boost to speed can be maintained in many MANY other ways without mounts – gem store speed boosters, swiftness, signets, traits, and arguing that mounts are needed to adventure around the map more just eliminates the purpose of waypoints.

Mounts are completely useless in this game. There is absolutely no reason for them to exist.

As we have argued in the past – why get the dev’s to work on pointless projects when they could instead be developing new maps, dungeons, traits, armour, weapons and skills and balance the races and professions that already exist.

There is a reason people are enormously opposed to mounts. It is because they are a pointless waste of space.

So you are pretty much saying that because you don`t approve of mounts and because you feel like they have no purpose, that nobody else should be allowed to have them. Gotcha. I remember how many people had sissy fits over the new item grind when they added the fractals. The majority didn`t seem to want or like it, but there it was.

And what you consider a waste of space , others may really enjoy and want. It don`t matter to me whether they add them or not. I am just here because it bothers me seeing so many people argue against something that they have 100% freedom of choice whether they want to use it or not. Having an opinion on why you don`t want or like is cool. But forcing everyone else to adhere to your opinion and making the decision for everyone else is kindof selfish. If you don`t like mounts, dont use em. But if you do want one, the option would be there. It`s a win win for everyone. I certainly would never tell you how to enjoy your playtime so why would you bother with mine?

why did they just put the broom out in the last patch then.

The pet idea is realistic, but also doesn’t fit GW2, since it requires a lot of work, and overall isn’t very fun.

The only way mounts are making their way into the game is the same way as
the Broomstick.

Gem-Store mounts, that are purely for cosmetic customization.

Well I can see from your words that you will never accept any opinion or idea that you don`t agree with. That`s fine. But if I were a developer, I would listen to both the majority AND the minority when it comes to pleasing my customers. Like I said before if you wouldn`t want to use it, then don`t. but why deny someone else something just because you don`t like it. I hate lima beans but I wouldn`t say you aren`t allowed to have them. And there is nothing wrong with making requests or suggestions for things you wold like to see in the game. That is what this forum is for after all.

I think mounted travel sure beats clicking waypoints unless I am pressed for time. I will most likely encounter some event while traveling from Ato B then encounter nothing if I took a waypoint. And if I ever did get a mount it had best increase my speed and be functional. Costume pets are for screenshots. And whats wrong with them being for transportation anyway? Would you rather pay your silver to a waypoint? Or ride through a few zones and enjoy the scenery? I know ,I know, you`ll probably say you`d rather spit out the silver.

I am not denying you anything, please re-read through my post. Also the implication of mounts would require the time to Mat, skin, program, code collision detectors for the whole world. I simply stated that the developers could be working on more pressing matters rather than something that the Minority wants, when the Majority of Voiced players would rather see other things. I guess it is a good thing your not a developer, as you don’t understand what prioritizing lintels. Also lima beans as an example is a horrid option to use.

You can already do this now, since every class has some sort of speed increase. You don’t need a Mount to do this.

Because there is already a transportation function in the game, between waypoints and your characters own two feet . See above comments for the rest of the reason.

You realize the cost of the Mounts IF we are Entertaining the Idea would be the same as you would spend in Waypoint travel. Cause this is not the first time this has been posted I took 5 gold and made 10 jumps per a zone, Not doing anything but WP jumps.
I went through all the starter areas, all the second tier areas, 3rd, 4th, and half way through 1 of the level 80 zones before I ran out of money.

So yeah I don’t mind paying the silver cause I would pay the same amount anyhow on a mount, and on average that many jumps would take the causal gamer months to even hit, the hardcore gamer slightly less. So yeah I don’t mind paying the cost of way points, as for your other part about riding and enjoying the scenery please see above where I mention about the speed increase all professions have.

You allready made it clear you oppose the idea because you feel it would be time better well spent for the devs to rather work on something you personally support then something you don`t. You feel they don`t belong and that`s fine you have your opinion. If you want the devs to concentrate on creating new content that`s cool. But trust me. I do some 3d modeling myself and it isn`t all that hard for an experienced 3d artist to model and rig a mount and it doesn`t take all that long if you have all the proper tools at hand. So making mounts wouldn`t really cut away the budget of making new content like you imagine it might. We can still have new content along with new mounts if anet decided to add them. Why limit everyone elses game experience based on what you personally prefer or what you think anet should be concentrating on first? Me riding around on a horse has absolutley ZERO bearing or impact on your personal gameplay, only mine. You can still travel from wp to wp till your hearts content.

I also mean adding a mount as in adding a mount vendor stable to cities. Where I go in, choose a mount, drop 50 gold or whatever and its mine and I ride it and its mine forever just like in eq2. I don`t mean the waypoint to waypoint mount rides like DAOC had.

There should be new goals to achieve like getting rare mounts and training them. Otherwise without new goals, it will be boring after some play time. Visual mounts with swiftness can’t ruin the game, they will just attract more people to this game.

For some reason people don`t like the idea of mounts and I cannot understand why. To me any option that can enhance or provide any extra fun to a game is a good move. Notice I said option, meaning the people that don`t like the idea don`t have to partake in it and can move on. But for the people who would like to see something like that, why not? I saw a post in another thread where someone mentioned they didn`t want to see mounts blocking npc`s. Easy fix there. EQ2 had an option to disable the graphics for mounts so people that didn`t want to see them didn`t have to. Still have an argument for them now after hearing that? It’s not really a thing of you not being able to understand why we don’t want mounts. It seems more the case that people who want mounts choose not to understand why the majority (yes – we are a majority) of players don’t want mounts.

We have said many times the reasons why having mounts are completely useless. We hear the arguments that “They can be only cosmetic!” but you miss the fact that cosmetic trophies already exist in the form of the mini system. You say “They can only provide a minimal boost to speed” but that boost to speed can be maintained in many MANY other ways without mounts – gem store speed boosters, swiftness, signets, traits, and arguing that mounts are needed to adventure around the map more just eliminates the purpose of waypoints.

Mounts are completely useless in this game. There is absolutely no reason for them to exist.

As we have argued in the past – why get the dev’s to work on pointless projects when they could instead be developing new maps, dungeons, traits, armour, weapons and skills and balance the races and professions that already exist.

There is a reason people are enormously opposed to mounts. It is because they are a pointless waste of space.

I really don’t see the people who oppose mounts as the “Majority”….the Majority are the people playing the game having fun and not even looking on the forums at all.

Anet does not cater to the customer they cater to the money…they put in items they think will sell.

As long as they are only in cities (aka: non-combat zones), I don’t have a problem with mounts of some sort being added.

The main problem is there are no mounts in the lore beyond the Dolyak which is mostly used to carry cargo not people. So it’s either something the Charr or the Asurans invent. Which means a mechanical object. Which isn’t a mount, it’s a vehicle. But I still would only want vehicles inside of cities (non-combat zones).

And TJV didn’t mean that he didn’t want mounts because he wants the devs to focus on things he want.

He meant the devs have other things that are more important to deal with than adding mounts:

• Content to do while leveling up and once you’re level 80.
• Dungeon fixing (ways to get players who otherwise don’t do dungeons to do dungeons and how to make them worth the effort).
• WvW fixing (ways to get people to play it and actually actively participate in WvW)

Not adding in fixing bugs because ANet most likely has a team devoted to bugs and a separate team devoted to creating new things.

LotRO has mounts and even mounted combat and you have to train that warhorse. You could try there! If the world was wide open with no portals between zones and if there were no waypoints every place you want to possibly go then perhaps mounts would make sense but the sheer amount of develpoment time required to put such a system in place could be better used elsewhere. Turbine spent a lot of resource power putting mounted combat in play.

I find this disturbing. You are pretty much telling me you have no problem with me having a mount as long as I can only use it in the way you feel appropriate. Mounts are for traveling speed, not for standing around in cities and taking screenshots. I would also like you to go into great detail explaining how me being on a horse traveling through from zone to zone on foot effects you in a negative way? And why me being on thaat horse traveling from zone to zone makes you so disgruntled that you feel it isn`t worth a dev teams time to create for the ones that would appreciate it. Because so far there hasn`t been one valid reason for implemeting them other then if anet wants to or not or it if fits lore.

If you try to stick to hardcore lore in a game you are just going to limit what you are able to create and inject into the gameworld which I beleive isn`t a wise move. Sure there aren`t mounts in the original game. But that don`t mean you couldn`t ride a moa, devourer, doylak, or some kind of mechanical bear or whatever. Also I can think of nothing more important then taking your customers opinions into consideration no matter how small or large the vocal base may be. They said in the beginning that exotic was the top grade and they would keep it that way. Now look at whats coming. People wanted some kind of gear progression and it`s coming even after all the people who threw fits threatening to leave.

If I were running an online game and I wanted to be successful. I would listen and consider alot of the suggestions the customers make. Some are really good and others are not so good. But this is a valid idea that has stood the test of time for like 15 years. There has been enough posts about this topic since the games release to no doubt let the devs know that people are indeed interested in something like this. Whether they decide to do it or not is up to them but nobody can really give one stone valid reason how it would effect the playerbase in a negative way.

Don’t kill me though, I have something to add.

The only way I can see mounts (or vehicles) in the game is if they were being used in a mini-game somewhere.

Only the Stone Summit Dwarves in GW1 ever used mounts. The Dolyak Rider and the Beast Master.

The down side to your idea of mounts are as follows:

1 – Mounted players not putting coin towards the Waypoint gold sink and aiding inflation.

2 – Mounted players tend to become oblivious to their surroundings. Downed players will likely get ignored. I get upset enough when players run off and leave people down.

3 – Mounted players tend to “run” to zones they don’t belong in and leech.

4 – Mounted players use more resources on other players’ computers.

5 – Mounted players will likely cause more overflow problems in Lion’s Arch. During the Karka event a lot of players realized the zones also have a limit on how many skills of the same type can be activated at one time notably the Hounds of Balthazar skill.

Bonus Negative:

Many players that love mounts are jerks and LOVE to park their mounted butts on top of NPCs so no one can see nor read where the NPC is.
