Guildwars 2 is in danger if arenanet doesn't act on their endgame while they still can

Some of you seem to have a severe case of Stockholm Syndrome with the carrot-and-stick model of character progression. It’s a relic of a begone and benighted era. Just let it go.
That era is far from gone my friend, and it will never truly be gone if a game company wishes to continue to have a solid player base. Look at TOR. That player base kitten near went the way of the dinosaurs because of the terrible end game. If I remember correctly they added more gear progression, more dungeons, more raids and more general content, and they are more alive than they would have been…some say it was way to late on their part.
I don’t want to see this game lose the player base. I want this game to be successful like EVERYONE else. The current system implemented is not good enough. Your game ends at 80. That’s not how it should be. Either make me have 15 plus character slots to constantly create newer characters to “fill” my end game craving or create an end game that will actually motivate players to want to work for something.
Actually that is one of the reasons why TOR failed. Only new content after launch has been two new raids. There is absolutely nothing to do if you do not raid or gather gear.
But if raiding and gearing is the only thing you want, why not play a game that is centered on that instead of trying to change the only one that does things differently?
People want different things and now there is a game for non-raiders too.
I think ‘game for non raiders’ is a weak argument actually. GW2 just does not have a solid endgame.
People keep turning around the issue, saying that it’s ok the way it is. It really isn’t. And your not helping Arenanet by improving their game. They want to hear what’s wrong with their game and how players feel. That is feedback.
And why keep reffer to raiding and world of warcraft? Am I saying: I WANT RAIDING NOW LIKE WOW? no.
We are adressing the issue, it’s up to the creative people at Anet to find an unique solution, and im pretty sure their team has the potential to do it

Remmember when Areanet in the documentary video stated clearly:
We wanted to make the best MMNORPG ever!’
And now they tell us that you can’t progress at level 80.
And that you can ‘put the game away’ for a few days? , is that what the best mmnorpg offer after hyping us up?The endgame starts from level 1? Really? I’ve made second character and many maps are empty already. What can I do there once I have map completion? Nothing, well, yeah you can go loot rocks and trees.. zzz
You can bring up your great arguments about ‘helping friends’ and ‘having fun’
Really? Well I can go ahead play runescape then! Is this what makes GW2 unique. Is this what the ‘Best mnorpg’ can offer? Helping friends?I love how people keep reffering to World of Warcraft. Once again I do not ask to be like world of warcraft.
I’m just saying that this endgame is just not working. If you’ve just hit 80 you will enjoy for a while. Soon enough you will see that you will get bored. There is just nothing that wants you to keep playing.‘Judge from yourself, don’t refer to ‘what areanet’ said the game would be like. They wanted to bring the best MNORPG right?
While I’m not quite sure what the “N” in “MNORPG” is, my idea of “The best” MMORPG certainly doesn’t involve 1083$ (Eur to dollar, including VAT, only the price to PLAY, nothing more) spent for the right to play for 5 years, or ruining ones life by feeling forced to play. (“Since I paid this month, I HAVE TO play or the money was wasted”) Honestly. That model doesn’t suit me at all.
And I would much rather buy myself a new laptop every 5 or so years. 1000$ buys a decent one. If I was going to spend 1000$ on a laptop anyways, I could spend 2000$ since I just saved 1k$ just by NOT playing WoW. Funny. Also saved 1200$ by not smoking (20 cigs/week) while playing WoW for 5 years, so I could actually spend like 3200$ on a PC every 5 years. Oh, I know this is going further off topic, but I also could save like additional 3 335$ if I quit drinking. So I’d have like 6500$ to spend on my PC and Laptop every 5 years. Also, as I am using bicycle for my daily commute, I save like 5 886$ every 5 years. Which is also close to the amount I’m saving by cooking my self instead of eating out. Oh, did I mention I just bought a very kitten computer?
(And I know there might be people who argue “Oh, I don’t feel forced to play, do you even play wow?” Well, I’ve tried wow, hated the idea of paying monthly for the same old same old I can get by playing f2p indie MMOs. Or B2P games. Then again, I lost my interest in few days, so I guess I never got to the “end-game” of WoW. But I sure don’t want to grind for weeks just to get to the actual content.)
Now, I’ve been basically just looking up prices for commutes, cigarettes, alcohol, going through my grocery recites and comparing them to fast food prices… So I kinda forgot what was the point I was making. Well, hope you enjoyed the offtopic for a while.

@xenkaidos That couldn’t be more of a hypocritical wall of text if you tried. You first stay how, and I’m just going to sum your generalization into another one, how people who actually want more of an end game are elitists, obsessive, obligated, demanding, childish, etc, yet you then go and say how “account bound” achievements are the biggest issue to you? Give me a break. Please focus on important issues as account bound achievements are the least of anyones worries right now.
Calling someone hypocritical for using a generalization followed immediately with your own generalization makes you….oh yeah. A hypocrite.

It’s exactly the same system as GW1, and it worked fine. You’re just used to a different way of doing things, and that’s ok, but Anet was very clear about how things were going to work. There is no gear grinding or carrot-and-stick character progression.
Now, we can discuss other improvements for the endgame (I for one think downscaling could be much better), but we really need to get over this obsession with gear grinding.

I don’t think many people realized how casual GW2 was going to be. In my opinion MMORPG is a hardcore genre, so its going to be hard for ANET to keep many people from leaving. Really though, they need to realize that servers will not balance themselves in WvW when everyone in losing servers are quitting or moving to winning servers… I think this game should focus on its PvP aspect, and use PvE to enrich it. My hope is that monthly content will keep people busy long enough for them to get things together.

@theUnamed I was just doing what he was doing, categorizing him for categorizing “me” to point out his hypocrisy.
@Seven I’ve actually played GW1 for quite some time so I know how things went during it’s prime. It’s starting to seem that the people who are so against character progression are the ones who are truly at fault here. I would generally assume you are more of a “casual” player and cannot be burdened with the time it takes in a standard mmo progressing build, and no one is saying that you can’t be that way. But why do the rest of us who actually want to play this game in a more hardcore sense, full team raids, gearing progressions, etc. Do you really think that GW will survive in this day and age with numerous wow clones that actually cater to their hardcore audiences? I for one know they cannot keep this ship afloat if they don’t. They are nearing an iceberg my friend and if they don’t turn this ship, they will start taking on water…only a matter of time before they sink…And I don’t know if I’m going down with the ship.
