Gw2, moba, and you
err whats moba?
Tis only what you can do for all
Moba…… A game genre that dota, lol, and smite use.
MOBA is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, defined heavily by the above listed games. It consists of a few seperate lanes for differnet players to utilize in or to destroy towers, creeps or semi useless npc minions that are just there to take a few turret hits for you, creeps that reside in between lanes that either grant a buff to the player that last hits it or, if it is a group encounter mob the team that last hits it, in order to destroy and enemy main base sort of structure. Think Legacy of Foefire – the capture points, 2 more sets of gates and the team boss being harder to get to/harder to kill.
this has no place in GW
I want more pvp modes, capture the flag, deathmatch etc… but, moba sounds good, but as said adine, this isnt moba game, this has no place here…
They’ve tried a MOBA like battle in their test sessions (or so I’ve heard). This has a place in GW2, you never want to restrict options for players. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean others won’t love it.
sounds doable. their PVP structure for sPVP opens the doors for a TON of options.
MOBA
Arena-style combat.
things like that.
this has no place in GW
Why?
The structure of gw2s spvp is perfect for a game mode like that
Would be fun, but the problem is that an AoS and an MMO use -completely- different leveling, skill-learning, and gear systems. I can see them doing an almost minigame-ish version though, like GW1’s boxing. Something like a stacking “level” buff and a class-based skill bar that you can upgrade as you gain those “levels.”
this has no place in GW
Why ? Most of pvp modes in MMOs come from FPSs. Why couldn’t they come from another kind of game ?

I actually think a moba without leveling/skill learning would still works as long as you can customize your build before entering the game.
But even if we need to keep the leveling and skill system, i think its highly doable in gw2.
Actually, it would be possible if they bring back the old GvG with the guild lords, if they can match up with some sort of defensive structure. Or those HAs’ were pretty cool, with the ghostly heroes. ^^

still I dont understand the concept of MOBA…. a more popular game of that style? Is like Horde Mode in gears of wars 3?
Er, it’s sortof a battle arena where you test your wits against each other. Call of duty can be best described towards it if your not home with the common Defense of the ancients concept. Where you have them to prevent your base/hero w.e. from falling. WIth 3 different playfields that you have to defend. Tier1,Tier2,Tier3.
Now you’ll probably wonder why i put Call of Duty in that list. But it’s a bit skeptical to put it this way. Since there was a specific mode that would basically like that Arena game that totally failed. Forgot it’s name.
Moba and Dota somehow merged together. It’s the same, but not exactly the same. So it’s confusing, like me. 0.o
Edit: Bloodline champions, SuperMNC and well like i said Call of duty. Are Arena based games. So fit the role of the MOBAs.
Then again, LoL, DoTa 2, Smite etc.
Strafe back from when they had this starcraft map that sortof started the whole thing.
Eventually warcraft released and they modded DOTA maps.
Which quite frankly got popular unlike the Starcraft map, eventually couple years later growing wide with other Dota games which you cant refer to as a dota since the game was called Defense of the ancients. So it turned out into a MoBa Genre.
Ofcourse i skip the entire big hurl of information but i was hoping i could enlighten a bit of it. =/ You’d have to google it. But honestly, those games get repetitive like craze at some point. (my opinion)

Think League Of Legends etc.
I think this mode would work extremely well.
Yeah, just hope, if they consider doing so. Bring something from HA (Heroes Ascent) back. Oh, i just love those ghostly heroes. =(

I tend to agree that this could be fun. I dunno how easy it would be to implement. Certainly as a kind of minigame it shouldn’t be too hard but having something with the same depth is quite an undertaking.
I myself really dislike the MOBA games but it’s mostly because of the mouse movement thing. I would love to play that kind of game using the awesome pvp system we have here.
Smite would probably be a good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJk0idhG-qI
GW2 already has some elements such as the Lords in Legacy of the Foefire or the mini-bosses from Forest of Niflhel. I do find myself wanting more objectives in sPvP, larger (non-tournament) maps with control points and NPCs to downplay the deathmatch mindset.

See, this is why MOBA is akitten name. League of Legends and everything else descended from AoS/DotA are a very specific formula, which “MOBA” doesn’t explain AT ALL. There’s obviously a problem when your name describes Bloodline Champions and Call of Duty better than your own game.
Ok ive watched the smite utube video and i now think i understand it... I think it would be good as a minigame maybe using the mini’s we have aquired in our collection vaults.
Tis only what you can do for all
It can be more than just a mini game.
A moba type of spvp will keep people occuply in gw2 for years…… At least imho.
first remove the downed state
MOBA-style PvP sounds like it would be awesome in GW2. Think of Legacy of the Foefire on a larger scale with a few NPC’s like Svanir and Chieftain thrown in, and possibly a group of Centaurs to poke fun at the LoL wolves. So much potential!
At any rate, I want to see ArenaNet step outside their comfort zone with sPvP. Conquest is great, but it gets repetitive. We need non-Esport based play as well in a sPvP setting (which, like Capricorn, has no ties to tPvP). Think of them as the Battlegrounds in WoW if tPvP was considered the “arena” of GW2.
Yes i agree now after i saw smite video, it could be nice to have this mode there.. but, moba games have balance only for this mode, i cant imagine how it would be working in gw2, it isnt unattainable for anet, but, if they dont want to add dungeon finder for 80% of comunity, im scared about this… we can be glad if they add other mods, without moba…
Yeah. We also need to have a 2D sidecroller mode, an FPS mode, a racing mode…
Oh wait.
GW2 in an MMORPG. Why, and how could it be a moba?
why ? to have fun, in this low endgame mmo…
moba mode can boost their sales too…
Yeah. We also need to have a 2D sidecroller mode, an FPS mode, a racing mode…
Oh wait.GW2 in an MMORPG. Why, and how could it be a moba?
Think of it as an extra mode of spvp.
Personally i think its much better than the 5v5 conquest mode…
Yeah. We also need to have a 2D sidecroller mode, an FPS mode, a racing mode…

2D scroller, FPS, racing mode… MOBA isn’t only RTS, see smite link above and it may clear a few things up for you as far as perspective.
A boss-objective battle with waves of minions and towers would be an awesome game mode.
I think mobas are horrible, possibly the worst genre in modern gaming. I’d rather play a truck driver simulator. So no, not missing that crap at all
I liked in Jade Quarry how I didn’t have to play a role designed specifically around killing players, or defending against other players, that I could escort the turtles and such too.
I’d love a map I could play my engineer like Heimerdinger on.
@Mr Magoo: I respect that you don’t like MOBAs but the fact remains that it is a widely played genre that many people enjoy. It would work well in GW2 as a PvPvE option for players.
@RebelYell: HA! Some of the abilities in GW2 reminds me of LoL. You could always make an asura engineer with a blond afro and run with a bunch of utility turrets.
Haha, bit late to reroll my engy, but that’s a cute idea.
Come on anet~ lets go with this idea
I agree, I would love to see a moba mode.

Absolutely, I recognize they are popular. Justin Bieber is popular. Trashy reality TV is popular. There are games, records, tv shows to satisfy those needs though. No reason to let them contaminate other entertainment products made specifically for people with different taste :-P

“Contaminate?” Jade Quarry didn’t “contaminate” Random Arena. How about this: if you don’t like a mode, don’t play it. There’s not even a consequence at the moment for abandoning SPvP if you don’t like the current map.
A moba mode in spvp would give players the end game they want….. Sort of
Goin to bump this up
this has no place in GW
That’s like saying CTF or King of the Hill or any other game mode you could dream up, and then slot into sPvP, has no place in GW. I think it would take a lot of work and effort on ANet’s end, but if done well it would likely draw a very, very large crowd and userbase.
That said, I won’t be holding my breath. It’s not necessary for the game.
this has no place in GW
What they said.
The LAST thing GW2 needs is for the League of Legends community to swarm us in masses.
this has no place in GW
I don’t think the game type fits so I agree
Now some random facts
League of Legends made the term
MOBA = Multiplayer Online Battle Arena
I still think is an awful term
Defence of the Ancients made the term
ARTS = Action Real-Time Strategy
I like it better but it has an issue if you search it what do you think you are going to get.
This has been already done, and it’s therefore, still possible.
I bet that it’ll be even possible to replicate the leveling up, getting more skills as the character kills, although I don’t see it necessary, and GW2 skills and combat mechanics could be used instead.
At least as an experimental map in the sPvP rotation could prove really interesting, with two sides, towers that deal increased damage to players, ‘creeps’ that spawn in waves and structures to protect instead areas to capture.
this has no place in GW
Allow me illuminate you with the wisdom of experience:

They already made a place for it.
All that’s left is brining it to GW2.
