HP % on health bars. Why don't we have it?
Simple addition that really shouldn’t be missing in 2013. In 2003 maybe, but certainly not now.
That said, we can just guestimate in the meantime.

I think they’re rather fond of the artsy look to the current HP bar.
What annoys me most is how there’s a good 5% more HP than what’s shown on the bar. It’s hell watching the last survivor trying to solo the boss when its health has been sitting at zero and it just won’t go down.
In game series called monster hunter you dont even have such things as visable health bar for monsters, can you imagine that? Also If it would apply for world bosses than same would need to apply for everything.. which would question balance i think

I didn’t like that game purely for that reason.

Well, yeah. But MH is too raw and metal for us poor wee mortals.
Just imagine the kittening if an enemy as difficult as a ’jho was implemented.
I like it the way it is. Counting down from 100 to 0 on every mob is boring. Having imperfect information makes for more fun combat (except on HP sponges, nerf those)

One of the design elements going in was having people look at the action, not the UI. You can see a bar out of the corner of an eye, but would have to look at numbers.

Why yes I can.
I’d like to see somewhere down the line how much HP an enemy has, but I just wanna see it climb up when more players show up.
If you look at it this way. Guild wars 1 didn’t have that kind of system and we got by just fine without it…or I did anyway. Not sure ’bout the other players.
So… how would people react when another group of five players turn up and the % of the health bar suddenly changed from 30% to 40%?
The fact that mobs and such scale with the amount of people attending makes a number based health system quite hard.

The less numbers, the better. Who needs a percentage. It’s a game, not math class.

IS this game called monster hunter?
I’d wager a reason for this is % HP triggers. Certain events / states of bosses begin when they reach a certain percentage of their total health, and knowing exactly when makes bosses even more predictable.
There’s other fixes for that of course (% ranges so you don’t know the exact moment they’ll switch for example) but I’m sure there would be problems with that approach as well.
I’d kind of like a % indicator for my own health pool, while we’re at it. Traits that proc at 25% life can be kind of unwieldy to use, since it’s a bit harder to guess at where 25% is. (50% is pretty easy.)
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.
No reason not to have it. Dont like it? turn it off or dont look at it.
i have 20,000 hp, boss hit me for 21,600 :simple math=(-1,600) overkill
