what about an hard mode server with it’s own rules? It’s one or two new servers which can’t be picked as homeserver and can only be guested to.

sample rules:

  • your level is -2 of the normal mode equivalent of the area.
  • down mode loses health 20% faster
  • +50 magicfind accountwide for this guestserver
  • a player limit per map (about 20players) – then overflow
  • downmode removed
  • only top 5 players receive drops → anti-zerg

1.) what do you think? Would this be something that could satisfy the hardcore players without hurting the casual crowd?
2.) Would you implement it differently?
3.) What would be your rules?

Hmmm…although, ArenaNet themselves suggests that players who desire a more challenging game should do quests 2-3 levels above their own level. Defeating higher leveled mobs also have a higher chance to drop good loot. So in a way, it already exists in the game, but I know what you mean.

I would rather have ArenaNet adding more veteran and silver elite mobs into the regular maps, for those who want tougher mobs and better drop. Would be great if the mobs have better AI aswell, like using block, dodge, interupt and different skills more often.

What I have most problem with, is the way which you can just rush into a group of mobs and start pressing random buttons without having to worry about dieing. Often it doesn’t require any active thinking while playing, and many mobs can be killed just by using auto-attack ONLY.

And if they remove some waypoints and make it so you can just teleport btw one waypoint to another, and teleport btw maps using ONLY larger waypoints, it would be better and would require the player to plan and prepare more before going out in the “world”.

well not so easy if you already are 80. At that moment you can’t find 2-3 level higher events, even when downleveled it’s quite easy mostly.

this would be nice too, I agree. I’d reduce champion-health when soloing though. Yeah, it’s supposed to be a group-challenge, but it’s too easy with 5 players and too lengthy when alone.

Well ofc…silly me. Obviously, you are right about that it would be hard finding mobs 2 levels above you when you already are lv 80 XD (which you are for the most part since leveling up is pretty easy in GW2).

Other things that would make the game better and more challenging (in my opinion obviously):

Slower and slower level progression as you gain more levels

Make the mobs tougher to fight, but respawn slower (so you don’t get some undead mob in your butt when you are about to turn your back and run along)

More heart quests with different types of…uhm, content. I know there already are alot of different types of things to do in quests but in reality, you are just pressing “F” when you are watering the cows or bringing in the crop or whatever. That is a cheap and braindead activity. It would be one thing if it required you to time pressing “F” but most of the time it doesn’t.

I’m for anything that will reduce the number of players guesting on my server in popular areas. It’s a bummer to login on your home server and get kicked into overflow because people want to guest there due to the popularity. I say send them to your hardcore server instead.

Everyone would flock to hardmode servers and regular servers would be empty. If they introduce Hard Mode it will likely be for instances similar to GW1

if this would happen, Anet should really rethink their difficulty standards. Result: a better game for everyone.
