I have an idea to make WvW a bit more interesting and challenging. Perhaps some of you will think this is stupid, but hear me out…

What if WvW had a “hardcore” server where the combat was more like EVE in the sense that it would be full loot and all the gear you could use in WvW would have to be player crafted? The Mists (including WvW) exists as somewhat of an alternate reality, so this could be possible.

When you entered WvW, you would be given a basic set of starter gear (unrelated to PVE gear). You could mine for whatever crafting materials you needed to craft items, the keeps and supply depots, etc. could act as areas where you can craft and access a merchant, and when you die, you lose all your equipment.

This would be incredibly fun (for the mature, hardcore crowd). Not only would PvP actually get your heart pumping, but the economy would explode! I think it would work… Thoughts?

When I read “Hardcore Mode”, I was expecting a mode where defeat meant losing your character.

I think permadeath would be a little extreme! But it’s certainly an option. I think full-loot is enough to turn most people away

As for the actual suggestion – No.

You’re just asking for DayZ mode in GW2

Fact of the matter is, the “mature, hardcore crowd” is a minority. A smaller minority then you can even imagine.
The majority of players who would enjoy this are little —--s who would spent their time hunting other players. And the players who aren’t —--heads have to spend all their time avoiding those players.

It’s not the demographic ANet is aiming at, we have more to lose then to gain from your idea.

EVE has done it successfully for around a decade, why couldn’t ANet have a hardcore WvW server?

EVE has done it successfully for around a decade, why couldn’t ANet have a hardcore WvW server?

Your logic can be rewritten to say this:

World of Warcraft has millions of subscribers – Why shouldn’t ANet add tons and tons of chain-quests and implement a shopping-list style of questing?

The answer is the same for both statements: Market appeal

GW2 is targeted at a different audience. If GW2 players enjoyed EVE so much, they wouldn’t be playing GW2.

Now, that brings up the argument that gamers can and should enjoy multiple games.
- The majority can’t do that. Not with MMOs.
Most people, normal people, casuals/kids who are the lifeblood of games, do not play more then one. They find one they like and stick with it through thick and thin because they can’t afford the time, effort, or money to maintain multiple MMOs in their daily life.

GW2 is aimed at a specific demographic so that it can secure it’s own life blood.
Trying to copy other games will only hurt the consistency of players it secures more then helps.

Aww, when I read Hardcore Mode, I was thinking the Hardcore Mode from GW1.

People who can argue often offer a good and meaningful conversation about the subject.
People who can’t tend to call the opponent troll, scream something utterly incomprehensible
and finally result to personal insults.
