Harder jumping puzzle
would definitely love to get the action packed challenging feel like in a singel player game in a MMORPG !
After how hard people complained at the clock tower I don’t think we’ll see a hard jumping puzzle ever again.
really bad engineer
I think there are hard enough jumping challenges already. The one in southsun cove is was just about as hard as I would ever want.
That’s a shame. And worse yet that I didn’t got the chance to try it (start playing after Halloween). My favorite one so far is Griffonrook bomb run. That one was nice! At first I thought it was impossible but then tried a few times and now I can do it whenever I want.
Challenge are nice and feel rewarding. Farming easy stuff is not. Don’t understand why people whine about hard stuff…
On a side note, I would really like to see some fortress in WvW that you could conquer by running a jumping puzzle. Something like; you use the jumping puzzle to get inside (might also be the only way to get inside?!) then once you get inside you can do something to open the door for the rest of your ally. Need to make it hard of course and with a PvP aspect
I would suggest a jumping puzzle that randomly changes on a non-static timer. Basically chunks of blocks rearrange themselves based on the timer but clues are provided to indicate the direction in which the character should go or which button/chest should be used to open up the correct pathway.

Love this idea! Great replay value and maze factor. Might be a great spot to organize races.
Would love more jp like the one in malchors leap where you have to collect the orbs. Took me 3 hours and it was totally worth it!
I’ll tell u why people whine about hard stuff….World oF Warcraft gameplay spoils…mmmhmm….u laugh but that game became such a simple example of an mmo hat something a bit harder and OH NOOOO….This is why i loved GW1….it was challenging…skills builds hard mode..
btw
i think we could use hard puzzles like that in GW2 BUT…….they should have separate achivements somehting like
“not so easy” or ‘Tough guy" because this way players will have an option to do them….so that the majority of those who dont like to do hard stuff doesn’t complain….Basically if u cant do it u dont have to HAVE the achievement. u hear me?
It would be cool if they made an instanced jumping puzzle where the difficulty increases the more you complete it, much like FoTM.
Although I would want it solo. I thought about having coordination in a pug but 30min long swamp level popped in my mind and I shuttered.
This is not a platform game, nor is it called Jump Puzzle 2. The one thing we don’t need is yet more jumping puzzles.
ANet should release a separate game for all you lovers of jump puzzles, so you can leave GW2 and stop asking for more.

It’s called guild wars 2 yet there are no guild wars. Irrelevant point is irrelevant.

I’m sorry, i didn’t realise you was being forced to do them. I for one love them and think they are a great addition to the game. They are optional and a fun distraction. I would love to see more things like this in the game. It breaks the mold and makes the game a more fun environment to play in for a wider variety of people.
It sounds to me like you want GW2 to be just another MMO with all the standard bells and whistles that come with it. If you don’t like JP’s then don’t do them, stop trying to dictate what other people should be allowed to do in an MMO. The MMO SHOULD be a mixed bag of tricks, because so many people play them. I take my hat off to Anet for trying to make the MMO genre a varied and fun experience that caters to a wider audience, rather than the stagnant same old stuff a lot of games come out with.
I love jumping puzzles back when i discovered wow i used to jump from a private server to another just to see if there were any to complete there. I once stumbled upon a private server with jumping puzzles so hard it toke a week to complete just one, i have to admit that was one of the most fun experiences i ever had in a mmorpg

so just curious… if they are optional how is one supposed to get 100% map completion without them?? this isn’t super mario brothers after all.

I don’t remember having to do a single JP to get my world complete, unless you are including vistas, which I really wouldn’t call jumping puzzles.
You’re right about it not being Super Mario Brothers though. Although at one point I did almost think it was. I jumped up onto a rock and thought ‘Wow, this is EXACTLY like Super Mario Brothers’. Thankfully, I woke up and realised I was not playing Super Mario Brothers and was actually playing World of Warcraft. Then I woke up again and realised that I was actually playing a better 3D MMO which has a z axis, which the game developers thought they’d make good use of.

There are a couple jump puzzles tied to world completion. There’s a skill point and a vista at the end of a jumping puzzle in Diessa Plateau, for instance. But for the vast majority they’re purely extras, yes. And thats good, they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.
I don’t mind harder jumping puzzles as long as they don’t kill you when you mess up, or provide a quick way to restart the puzzle if you do die (ala Griffonnook, where when you die you get a text box asking if you want to teleport back to the start). But if they make you run back from a waypoint, then thats tedious and annoying.
Like when I was doing Behem’s Gauntlet. I failed it many times and died before realizing the “proper” solution, and every time I had to warp to the waypoint and fight my way back through a gauntlet of Canyon Spiders (can’t just run past them because they immobilize you). That was by far the worst experience I’ve had with a jumping puzzle because of that run back to the puzzle every single time. And I’m sure I wasted a fair bit of money doing that as well, needing to pay the waypoint cost every time, though at least no armor repairs since armor doesn’t decay if you die from a fall.
I also hope future jumping puzzles are skill-based and not luck-based. That was my main complaint about Griffonnook, is that it was all at the whim of the enemy AI. Sometimes you could get past just fine, the griffons would notice you at a reasonable distance and take a moment before the started attacking (using their lunge attack with the yell at the start as a tell) so that you could run past or dodge their attack. Other times the griffons would aggro you from further away and immedietly charge you with a normal attack (which is quicker and has no tell), making it extremely difficult to avoid them.
I really like the idea of a difficult jumping puzzle that is also a race. Entrance fee and whoever gets first, second, and third gets various cuts of the entrance fee total (minus what would be used to filter gold out of the economy of course)
Would be quite fun in my opinion (for people who really enjoy the jumping puzzles)
And I think the only achiev(s) necessary for this jumping puzzle would be to get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. (where if you get first then obv. you get the 2nd and 3rd at the as well) Maybe even integrate this to a jumping puzzle master title for completing all jumping puzzles and getting 1st on the race one.
I’d also recommend that this puzzle would be done similar to the wintersday one in that no skills can be used and everyone has the same movement speed. To keep the race fair for all.
Why are harder jumping puzzles such a ridiculous NO! when harder dungeons and ever upscaling fractals are a big yes?
Some people like jumping puzzles, some people like dungeons. Neither are compulsary and each has their own set of achivements.
The lost shores JP drove me crazy- but it was still fun(but also very frustrating and i won’t touch it for a looooooong time again). A really hard JP would be nice, although I prefer the moderate ones – my favourite part of the game is exploring- so some hidden pass/… is just awesome <3
I agree they need some jumping puzzles for the more hardcore jumpers haha
I really enjoyed the Halloween jump puzzle.
There are Jumping puzzles that are manditory to reach a Vista for world completion. Dredgehaunt Cliffs?
I hate jumping puzzles but have no problem with them, as options, for people that enjoy them. I am annoyed that they will gate me from world completion, as they are not an activity I wish to do with MY game time. I’d be happy were it just an achievement for world completion, but unfortunately it also gates me from other activities dependent on World Completion.
I’ll do without world completion. My only point is.. an “optional” activity, isn’t.
No carrot is worth doing things I dislike. I did not play asurapokemon or worm Pac Man in GW1 for the same reason.

I disagree. I enjoy Jumping Puzzles as much as you enjoy having Alts. But back to the OP don’t you fret sir, more jumping puzzles are on the way! And they will hopefully be much more difficult. I was listening to a podcast and they interviewed the developer of the Mad King’s Clocktower. He stated that what he’s currently working on will make people go crazy. I can’t wait for it. As far as PvE is concerned, Jumping Puzzles are my favorite things to do. Unlike most PvEasy content, Jumping Puzzles are skill based. Which is why all the QQ on the forums, they aren’t used to PvE that isn’t gear based.

…Harder…jumping…puzzles? faints
Actually, if they made it so certain areas weren’t “guess which spot is the spot you need or you’ll glitch through” and made things a little more clear like actual platformer games do, I think that would be a good challenge.

Great idea! Everyone would have a jumping puzzle for their level of skill. We got some good idea here; race, puzzle that change over time, difficulty that increase. All this would benefit the jumping puzzle ecosystem.
On a side note, just for the whiner, as it was stated before almost every jumping puzzle are optional and seriously, map completion is optional too. Why are you doing map completion; for the experience, exploration and fun time or just to get a number increasing on a server? Anyway, if you are doing it for the good reason then go and really try the jumping puzzle, they are nice and you are missing something.
Also, I think there is already so much potential for the jumping puzzle in the world already. Every time I walk in a new map I look around me and I see “wanna be” jumping puzzle everywhere. There is no achievement and they are not required for anything, but the developer still took time to put them there. Which makes me think that someone or a couple of people in the team really love jumping puzzle :) I think they add to the world and makes you want to explore more and more. Here is some example of such puzzle :
- the towers at Kraitbane Haven Waypoint : there is 2 towers. One is the vista with the easy path up. The second one is a tower with just a few plank of wood coming out of its side. When I first saw it, I thought the design of the plank was random, but when you check it carefully, you see that it is a path up the tower. In fact, you can start at the very bottom of the tower and reach the top. All the plank are tiny and all jump need to be precise. Took me many time but I did it. I think this one deserve more attention.
- In the starting zone of Eternal battleground there is jumping puzzle too. Again no achievement or anything. I let you discover them.
- Have you reach the bottom of rata sum from the inside? There is a way down!
- Have you reach the lowest part of the cube of rata sum from outside without dying? There is also a way down, find it!
There is many place that are nice to explore like that and they should get more attention. We need to have some sort of achievement or vista or chest to make people aware of these places.

Can’t wait for the new jumping puzzles and totally agree with you that puzzle are skill based. There is no exploit, no easy strat, no endless gear farming. It all come down to; do you have the skill to make the jumps and avoid the traps. They are very nice for casual players that don’t want to spend too much time farming in the game and want to excel at something. Also, there is an exploration part, which is nice, and a tactical part. You can plan ahead your every move for the jumping puzzle; plan the path in your head, remember the trap, the hard jump, etc. It’s like planning the fight for a big hard boss in PvE, but the difference is that you can do it alone. You don’t have to wait for other, or fail because of other. You are only in competition with yourself.

:O i gonna try find those, sounds very awesome
Three JP’s I can think of that are mandatory for vistas (and in some cases a skillpoint). One is in diessa plateu, one in straits of devastation (the viziers tower) and one is in dredgehaunt cliffs. I havent done 100% map completion yet, are there any more like that? Some vistas are also trickier to reach than some of the easier jumping puzzles.
Colin Johansen hits you for 239407889 damage
Game over
tbh the JP’s that have vistas are kind few and those that are ther is the very easy ones. and if you absolutely need that world completion for some reason and cant do them, ask (or even pay if you are THAT desperate) a mesmer that can do it to portal you up…
since i am sure the devs doesnt have anything more importent to develope :P
well i think there is planty of cool jumppuzzes in the game at this time. if you actually did them all by yourself no youtube cheating, i think there have been more then enough hours ^^
not saying more isnt always cool but making a minigame out of them with races and other stuff is maybe more up to the guilds themselve to do
