I noticed that harvesting tools become bound to the character that originally purchased the stack.

I have on multiple occasions purchased a stack of harvesting tools on a character only to find I have ventured into an area that requires the next tier of harvesting tools to harvest the node.

The stack of tools was completely unused, and I had hoped that I would simply be able to transfer the tools to a lower level alt, but this is not the case.

P.S. I swear harvesting tools did not become soulbound to the purchasing character at release. Was this changed in a patch? Please change it back.

(That’s durability, like with salvage kits, not a stack)

I totally agree & this was changed in one of the game updates as I recall giving my copper tools to an alt when my main was finished with the starter areas. I don’t understand the reason for making them soulbound. Perhaps account bound, but soulbound is crazy.

Also, ArenaNet needs to let us know before we purchase ANYTHING in game that it will become soulbound on acquire or soulbound on equip BEFORE we purchase it. I have wasted karma buying recipes for a different crafting profession as well.

I agree, I have no idea why they made them soul bound. Please make it account bound.

+1 to both ideas:

  • Make harvesting tools account bound on purchase; soulbound on use.
  • Clearly label anything that is account-or soul-bound, especially for items that can be purchased.
