For those of us who suffer the constant indignity that is the loot drop issue, harvesting is our golden egg. I recently completed fractals 8 & 9 and after selling all the loot only made just over 80s, from 2 whole fractal levels.

In the same time it took to do those fractals, I can run around the world with much less risk, or effort, harvesting ori, ancient wood, and omnomberries and make about 2 gold.

For some of us, the risk vs reward does not add up. Why should I fight a champion or veteran when most likely will not get loot from it? Why must I spend hours doing events for little reward (in my case about 40s per hour if I am lucky)?

Yes there are people who get plenty of reward in the game, but there are people like me who, sometimes only after just 5 minutes of killing the same mob type start to see lower drop rates and more junk drops. Add to this that (for myself) when wearing magic find I get more fine crafting materials, and less equipment, the reward is beyond a joke.

Harvesting, which carries much less risk than fighting at any of the temples or some of the group events in Orr, is much more rewarding when it comes down to gold in the bank.

I propose that you remove diminished returns from loot drops, remove “nothing” from the loot tables and allow everything we kill to drop something, even if it is junk, something is better than nothing. This would also fix the issue of champions and veterans not dropping anything.

I also propose that magic find be fixed so that instead of more fine crafting materials, you get more equipment, after all we are wearing it to try to get better gear to sell/salvage.

Harvesting is very boring though. You’re getting better “rewards” because people are prepared to pay someone else (you) to do the boring gathering part for them.

So what your saying is that the only reward in the game is how much money you acquire? The reason you should be doing Fractals is because they’re exceptionally fun. Barring that, how about because as of level 10 you can start earning Ascended gear?

If that’s still not good enough, don’t sell the rare quality gear you get in fractals and break them down for Ectoplasm. Then you will really start making some cash. I highly recommend avoiding using black lion salvage kits for anything other than harvesting ectoplasm from level 70+ rares.

And this is yet another problem, I rarely get rares and when I do, I do use BLSK’s on them but lately they fail more than succeed. I cannot even remember the last time I saw a 70+ rare. Heck my luck is so bad with BLSK’s that I have salvaged cheap exotics and at times only got an ancient wood/ori + rune from them, no ecto.

A semi-reliable way to get rares is to save up the greens you find, and to throw them in the mystic forge. In my experience, it has about a 25-33% chance of upgrading 4 greens to a yellow.

Oh, and I don’t use BL salvage kits on the rares either. In my opinion, a BLSK charge is only worth it for the 100% chance to save an upgrade, which means I only ever use it on exotics with superior runes/sigils.
